I won an auction for microsoft office software and I received an email from this guy's competitor offering to sell me microsoft office 2000 for $60. I believe this would have to be burned cds, since they state they have "copy" of OEM for installation purposes.

I e-mailed the real seller a copy of the email, because it was a dutch auction and therefore I figured this person was contacting everyone who bid.

What do you all think of this??

I would forward that email with full headers to [email protected] and let THEM deal with it if they so choose. And yes, that IS his real email address. Microsoft has 25 full-time employees (each making big bucks) to do NOTHING except read Mr. Bill's email and respond accordingly. Microsoft doesn't take things like this lying down. They DO investigate and they DO prosecute.

Sorry, but I don't use AOL and I haven't a clue. Anyone?

In AOL, just reopen the mail, and copy the entire thing..headers and all..copy and paste it into the body you are sending to MS.

when I open it, there are no headers, just the email address it's from, my email, date, and subject. No isp info whatsoever.

Hi tigress,
I have compuserve which is owned by AOL, and my headers are always on the bottom of the e-mail. I don't know if you bothered to scroll down on that message, but try looking on the bottom.

what this person is doing is auction interference right?? They're trying to get me to buy these software copies instead of completing the auction I won....

Chances are they're just trying to sell you a 'back-up' copy. It's still illegal and I would report them as suggested. Also, send a copy of that e-mail along to Safe Harbor.

And on a sarcastic note--gee, I thought this new e-mail program was supposed to stop stuff like this! HAHAHAHA!!
