I send out winning bidder notifications promptly with a detailed explanation of how to pay and asking for shipping info, yet less than 40% ever respond. Sure, the payment arrives shortly thereafter, but is a simple response too much to ask for???

What is with people these days??? What happened to courtesy???

You could say:

"Unless you answer this eMail with your shipping Info, I do nothing to get this auction ready for shipping out. This can delay you getting your item by three to five day, your call.

About three weeks ago, I changed my WBN "Please respond, etc." to "May I request that you take a moment to acknowledge receipt of this notification by emailing me your address?"

Still not 100% response, but it's gotten much better.

Oops, didn't answer your question. I think manners in general are pathetic these days.

Why pick on buyers? Two of my last three purchases were made with sellers who I had to email twice over the course of a week just to get a confirmation email! But at least they were consistant - they were equally sluggish in sending out my merchandise (still waiting on one, two weeks after the auction closed).

My initial contact simply congratulates the buyer on their winning bid and asks for their name & mailing address so that I may calculate shipping charges. I request a reply within 3 days. After they have responded with their address, I then forward the final cost requesting payment within 10 days. So far, 100% response! (Of course, I've probably jinxed that now This means one extra email for me,but they know exactly what I expect in terms of payment and forces their hand to respond.

At the beginning of my winning notification I state : Please send me your mailing address. If I have your mailing address, you will receive your item sooner as I can have your item ready to go. ( or something along those terms. )
This has helped alot! especially as when I get their cheque or money order in the mail , I can't read their writing.
Lately , a lot of people have been paying by paypal but I hate it when they write ~ oh , I have paid by paypal please ship ... and I DONT receive confirmation re paypal! Or one of my latest email in block letters. Haven't received my item ~ didn't you get my money order~ 1st time I have heard from this fellow! and the auction ended 3 weeks ago and no I didn't receive his money order !
HOwever, I notice a hugh difference in attitude depending on the type of book or item I am sending ~ a nice romance~ ie generally a great person to deal with
video people ~ not so great
s/f ~ sometimes terrible / sometimes great
childrens' books~ great people to deal with
I am thinking of writing a book on psychology relating to the type of personality to what they buy lol!

Suz23: I had to laugh re the psychology part! I sell dog related items and have noticed that the breed they buy has a lot to do with the type of responses I receive and also their payment and response time. My biggest NPB group is Pit Bull and Rottweilers! Go figure!

edited to add: I am not picking on the breed, just some of the owners.

suz23,

yup, i get those too. usually the problem is they've made a typo when entering my email address. the problem is, neither of us knows, until enough time has passed for one or the other of us to figure something's wrong!

now, when someone says they're going to pay me with pp, if 2-3 days go by and they haven't, i email asking if they did pay, that if they did i haven't received it, and explain the typo problem. this works great because if that was the problem, it gets fixed, and if it wasn't and they'd just forgotten, it reminds them to pay

i also request an address via email, so i can copy/paste when i make a label and decrease the likelihood of mis-addressing. most do reply, but some don't. so far, at least none of the ones who haven't replied have had illegible handwriting!
