I've got a set of 6 cups...they date from the early 1900's. I've done some research but haven't been able to identify the pattern...can you help? I don't know the difference between "pressed glass" and "cut glass". The cup has a spiral design on the side and, above that, an arc design (there are two of these patterns on the cup). Between these two patterns is another pattern...sort of a star but with lots of "points." The bottom of the cup is a repeat of the spiral pattern. The photo is a little dark but it's hard to take photos of glass...I'd bet the set was originally part of a punch bowl set. Any help identifying this pattern/maker would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Sorry, but your picture looks like the night sky through bad glasses. Show us a picture of the punch cup with a dark background, and another one with a piece of white paper behind it. We will all try to help.

Hi glassperson...thanks for suggestion. Following are 2 photos showing the two different patterns on the cup...hopefully, you'll be able to tell more. Thanks, in advance, for any help...

Pressed glass punch cup with one of the variations of the hobstar pattern. Perhaps Indiana?

Blueyes29 -- To try to help you tell pressed glass from cut... Look at the edges of the pattern marks in that cup. See how they look sort of rounded or "molten"? That means they are pressed. If they were cut those edges would be sharp -- angled instead of rounded. And on your third photo, see where that sort of diamond-shaped shape is with all the tiny diamonds inside? If it was cut glass those tiny diamonds would be very distinct and separate. Generally, most of the time you can assume that it's pressed glass. Then if you find a piece with exceptional clarity and very sharp edges to the pattern, you can start checking to see if it might be cut glass.
