This what one of my buyers said along with her Paypal payment: "neutral feedback rating will be left for seller if feedback isn't left for me within one week of receipt of payment. Thank you."
Of the 1600 I have left, I only have received 1000 in return. if I followed her train of though, I would have left 600 neutral feedback as well. (I'm sure I would have received my fair share of negatives from this!) :?

Sounds like feedback extortion to me. I'd send back an email saying . Negative feedback left for any unjustified neutral feedback.

Well, it probably is feedback extortion but I wouldn't worry about getting a neutral feedback because you didn't leave feedback in time...
What are they going to say?
"Seller didn't leave me feedback" ????
If they do, then I would respond with a negative that says something like...
"Buyer demanded feedback in a specified time so here it is..."

good one!
this sounds like a relatively new buyer. i'd be willing to bet she's going to have a lot of peeved sellers on her hands, and perhaps more feedback - but not the kind she wants

I have a newbie, won an auction, received item and now says she can't leave feedback
because I could not remember who designed
the item. I specified in my description the
engraving and the year it was made and the
year purchased. Sucker me, already left
feedback.. She says she did not receive my
email of explaination, so I sent it with a receipt this time and now she says I am being defensive. By the way, she asked after she
won the auction. Perhaps I should just quit
giving feedback....till the 90th day.

As a seller I used to finish up all my transactions with feedback. Every buyer got feedback whether I got it or not, because I would leave it right after I got home from the post office. Needless to say, it left the door open for negative and neutral feedback for stupid reasons such as the post office is too slow, seller didn't email me quickly enough, opps I pressed the wrong button etc. One person left me a negative because she said I didn't leave her feedback when I DID. One day I went onto vrane.com and looked up my feedback stats and I was shocked to see that I had left over 5000 feedback but only received alittle over 3000. So now I have been saving the feedback part until I get feedback or until I am sure the person has atleast received the item. I never thought I would be holding buyers feedback hostage but whats a seller to do?

I think I would be tempted to send her a response something like the following:
Thank you for your purchase. I hope you enjoy your item.
I always leave feedback for my customers when they have received the item safely.
Please be aware that statements such as "neutral feedback rating will be left for seller if feedback isn't left for me within one week of receipt of payment. Thank you." are considered feedback extortion by ebay and can result in having an ebay ID suspended (I'd include a link directly to the language on ebay's site).
I am sure you are not aware of ebay's policy regarding this and may want to revise your statement so you won't accidentally get into problems with ebay.
Regards
That way, you've acted like she is new & doesn't realize what she's done. You've warned her in a non-threatening, professional way & maybe she'll take the hint & back off.
If she doesn't..then someday someone's going to turn her in.
Perhaps I should just quit giving feedback....till the 90th day
People are STILL under the misconception there's a magic date where they can leave feedback w/o fear of retaliation.
Sorry but ebay changed this some time ago. As long as the auction remains in the database (and some have been in there for well over 100 days), then either party can leave feedback. If you think you are "safe" in leaving it on the 90th day, then think again.

She replied with this now, "When you received and accepted my payment, feedback
should have been left for me. As stated in the note portion of my paypal payment, if feedback is not left for my quick payment within one week of your accepting the payment, a NUETRAL Feedback rating will be left for you. I do not leave feedback until I receive the product and ensure that it works. Thank you---"

This reminds me of the recent bidder I had who THREE times reminded me to leave feedback, and said as soon as I left it, she would leave it for me. I patiently explained that I leave fb in batches, and hers would come next, yadda yadda yadda.
Well I left her feedback within a few days after she received her package. Guess what? She never left me feedback. Guess I wasn't prompt enough in my praise for her. Weirdo. Some people just expect feedback to be left instantaneously, I guess...
Good luck with your loon!! I'd have a few choice words for someone like that...
Everybody, including eBay support, knows that a neutral is nearly as bad as a negative. This is a clear case of FB extortion and you should tell your bidder this, as well as CC everything to safeharbor.
I agree with others, your bidder is a nut! If she is so hot for you to leave a feedback, tell her you will gladly leave her a NEGATIVE for being so blasted PUSHY!

Dingbat buyer to sun818: "I do not leave feedback until I receive the product and ensure that it works. Thank you---"
I would email: I do not leave feedback until you receive the product and ensure that it works. Thank you."
I'd take the neutral, then neg her. Just out of curiousity, what's the rest of her FB like?

She has a 94.3% unique positive feedback rate. 3 negs for NPB type stuff, 1 recent neg related to this situation. I have faith that she is overall a good person, but this looming threat of non-positive feedback is giving me grief.
Overall profile makeup
72 positives. 67 are from unique users and count toward the final rating.
0 neutrals.
4 negatives . 4 are from unique users and count toward the final rating.

If it were me, I would wait it out. If she gave me a Neutral, I would Neg her. There is no way I would leave feedback before she had in this case.
I would also copy all of her emails to Safeharbor and make sure they were aware of her tactics.
Then I would block her from bidding on any more of my auctions.

If so..did she mention they did not send her a feedback in a "timely manner" or that type of a feedback?

I was checking my feedback the other day and noticed I had received a neutral. Not remembering any problems with any transactions I was a bit taken aback.
I looked at the auction info and it was for a pair of cleats that I sold way back in the beginning of August. The comment was "Neutral : FAST GOOD E-BAYER!!" I thought that this was a bit strange so I wrote to the buyer and asked if there was any problem with the transaction because I never heard a peep from her till today when she left the feedback.
I didn't hear anything back but then this follow up was left. "Follow-up : I RECIEVED THE CLEATS O.K.,BUT THEY WERE NOT THE SIZE I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE!" Gee...did that really deserve a neutral?? I stated everything in the auction including the fact that I was totally clueless as to what these particular cleats were used for. However the size was stated accuately in the auction.
Now, I know folks tell us not to get our panties in a bunch over a neutral, but hells bells! It stinks to get one when you don't deserve one. At any rate, I replied in my feedback with "Response : Had no idea there was a problem. Would have made it right if I knew. Sorry."
Ok...I'll move on with my life now, I just needed to tell somebody

I usually leave feedback after return from the post office.
I have left over 2600 feedback. I have received 1871. I found that many multiple purchase buyers and repeat buyers do not leave feedback on each item because "it doesn't count anyway". I am very proud of the fact that I have about 400 feedback from repeat buyers! I look at that in every seller when making a purchase. I figure if the same people keep coming back it should be a great seller.
Although, I have to say, if I had this buyer I would probably send it to safeharbor or whoever over at ebay as feedback extortion, let them give me a neutral and then neg them as feedback extortionist. I would NOT leave them feedback right away as I normally do.

I received a neutral a little while ago, I admit I messed up. However, I offered a complete refund (including postage both ways) or I would pay the difference of what he got, which was $10. He said he was really happy with the guarantee I write in my auctions, but he could only give me a neutral because of what happened. I just wrote once, and told him that if that is what he feels he had to do, then that is fine, but I literally tried everything I could do to make him happy, and did, but I still got the neutral!
If I got a message liket his one though, I would NOT leave feedback, and if they left me neutral, I would leave negative in return, since feedback is supposed to rate the transaction, and this one would be quite annoying! Her ratio is way too high as a buyer. What is she still doing on ebay with so much NPB feedback? I wish sellers would stop worrying about the feedback (which is pointless) and file NPB so they can get bums kicked off ebay.

I think there should be a special category of feedback for transactions which go off track.
It's good to know that a seller is actually shipping merchandise after collecting money.
It's better to know that a seller is willing to fix off track transactions, and it's vile to learn that a seller is willing to stick a buyer with a disappointing purchase.
We learn a bit about the latter, vile case, via negs. What we don't learn about is the good sellers, those who respond as did ahc3 above. I'd like to see where a seller has 1200 good feebacks (8 retaliatory negs from npb's) and a count of 43 "good responses to bad situations".
In direct comparison to a seller with 1200 good feedbacks, 8 negs from irritated paying buyers, and a long trail of disappointment when things went a bit wrong.

I, too, have had my share of "feedback grubs". The type that email demanding to know why you haven't posted feedback yet even though you have just sent the item out. I have been burned twice by posting positive feedback to a buyer only to have their check bounce. (Now I wait until it clears no matter how much they holler.) I fail to see why its SO important to get feedback to some people. I can understand a 1st time buyer trying to break their cherry, but if a person has a feedback rating of say, 1234....why is it so dern important to have it 1235? JMO.

I'm imagining myself leaving this;
"although size was stated in auction buyer hoped for different size"
That is too rich! I would have loved to leave that as a reply! I had already left her positive feedback and to be honest, she really didn't deserve a neutral for being stupid But you are right, the size/description of the shoes was accurate, I'm guessing she didn't read before she bid.

I've only recently started selling on eBaY, (was selling at Yahoo! past two years but things are sloooow now.) I have always post feedback immediately after payment. Yes sometimes you get neg by someone for something you could not control but those are the exceptions. At Yahoo! a 'neg' can "til the cows come home" no real limit to amount! Looks like an 80 character limitation with eBaY or thereabouts.
What am I not understanding about leaving feedback for bidder first with eBaY? If lets say I leave positive feedback, then they come back and leave negative for slow media mail delivery as example or other such nonsense, do I not get to respond? If you are awaiting the bidder's glowing feedback on you, do you ask for it in your EOA, package insert, or to chance?
'ladele' here only

ladele,
Either party has the ability to respond to feedback left for them. In addition, I can leave you a feedback, you respond to it, then I get another opportunity to respond to it again.
IOW, the giving party in each instance has the last say.

Eventer,
The only exception to this is if you leave a comment, the other person does not respond, and you leave a second, follow up comment under your original comment.
The person can still respond, but you lose your right to reply.

Some sellers say the buyer has done their part as soon as they pay and therefore deserve positive feedback immediately upon payment. I took this approach for about my first 600-700 ebay transactions. But I was never totally happy with it.
To me, and remember this is just my opinion and I'm not trying to sway others to adopt it so no need to tell me what an all around horrible person I am, the transaction is not really over until the buyer has received the item. When I go thru the Taco Bell drive-thru and order my 7-layer-burrito I don't consider it a done deal until they actually hand over the little plastic bag stuffed with my burrito, 2 dozen napkins, and 9 sauce packets even tho I said no sauce.
So, for the last few months, I have not left feedback until the buyer has emailed me that they received the item (which I request that they do in the thank-you note I include with each item) or they have left feedback for me which also lets me know they have received the item. If they never leave me feedback that's fine, I will never ask for it. But as long as they let me know the item has arrived I will leave them feedback asap.
I have noticed the amount of feedback I have received has decreased since I've switched to this stance, but that's OK. I still feel better about it than my old way.
