There is a great Usenet newsgroup:
alt.marketing.online.ebay
It is a daily read like the AW Ebay board.
It is not moderated and it gets a little ugly over there sometime. The regulars police the group, but it does get a lot of spam. And there's the occassional flame war, as you would expect from any newsgroup.
Some of the regular users over there have tried unsuccessfully to create a moderated Ebay group in the past with not much success.
With the upcoming demise of AW, it would be nice if someone could form a moderated Ebay newsgroup. A group of volunteer regulars could be formed to handle the moderation duties.
Any folks out there with the knowledge or ambition to create such a group?
Anyway, I hope to see some of you guys posting on alt.marketing.online.ebay once the credit card requirement kicks in. Things may real of quiet around here very soon...

IRC chatrooms are nice, but they function completely different from a message board like this. The newsgroup is similar to this format, in that threads can develop and are recorded, so that somebody can join it days after it started.
Gamecock describes AMOE pretty well. There is spam, but the regulars clamp down on the spammers mercilessly. There's also visits by trolls, flame wars, and other hazards of newsgroup life - but all in all it's a fairly civil group as far as newsgroups go. I don't think there's a particular need for a moderated group since AMOE has managed quite nicely for years.

Actually, there is already an alternative to AW's message board that is nearly the same quality and even more features than AW. It's not yahoo either.
Usenet is too hard for most people to use and setup so they avoid it. I know how to use it, but rarely do unless I am looking the local FORSALE group for something.
IRC and chatrooms are in real time so you can't do much lurking.

How do I get there?
I for one am certainly going to miss this place. I have noticed a great change see fees first started. And there seems to me to be less and less posting here.
I have learned alot and have gotten lots of ideas from this board.

You need to find out the name of the "server" that your ISP uses. For example, I use Road Runner, and the server name is "news-server.neo.rr.com". I set up the account for that server in Outlook Express, and then I can see the list of different groups.
The eBay group mentioned is carried on my news server, so I can read and post from Outlook Express.
If you don't use OE for your mail, you could also read that group via GoogleGroups on the web.
