I am a Canadian seller, and like most of us, sell Internationsally, I can't possibly put the postage. For a package it is different to every Candian province and most U.S.States, not to mention Japan, England, Australia etc. Do you think it's ok to just put in the listing "please do not use the checkout feature", should I add, I will tell you postage when I contact you? This is going to make things so confusing, so far, thankfully, no-one has used it on my auctions.

Bumping this up, as I too would like an answer.

I have added a permanent line to my item description, but can't find how to make something come up in the 'checkout' box when the buyer clicks on it.

Anyone?

Amber, I'm not sure at all how this checkout thing works, so I can't help you with that.

But I am a Canadian seller as well, and what I do is I always quote a shipping charge that is Air Mail to anywhere in the USA. Air Mail is the same no matter what state it's going to. Most buyers want Air Mail. I mention that if the buyer is in any other country (which would include Canada) or any other method of shipping is desired, the price will vary. I have had no problems with this. Buyers in Canada and any international countries have always understood and e-mailed me for final shipping price.

I'm not Jubilee333 on eBay!

As a seller, I like handling my auctions and gathering my information from my buyers......I don't intend to allow ebay to do this for me. I saw an ebay seller that has just added in bid bold letters at the beginning of every one of her auctions, "I do not participate in ebay's Billpoint or check out feature.....I will make contact as soon as auction closing and this is the only thing you need to reply to". I intend on doing this also. When ebay developes a new feature that is supposed to make it easier for the sellers, they should ask the sellers first......this is only going to make things more confusing and not to mention time consuming.....I have my way to close my auctions as well as my own invoices I send out so I don't need ebay to meddle in this end of my business.....

I use the blank spot for return policy to state I will be sending my own EOA and please do not use this feature. Too many people fail to read all the auction information and hopefully they will see that when they go to checkout. I also stated I do not accept Billpoint but did put in the shipping amount just in case they use it anyway at least I won't have a big problem with final totals.

Be careful. I've been leaving the spaces blank but I just got one buyer who may have thought shipping is $0.00, since that's what Ebay told them in their Checkout email. On the eBay boards people are howling about this.

Unlike you Jubilee333, I find that most of my buyers want surface mail. I mailed 2 packages yesterday weighing over 12lbs each, the airmail costs would have been astonomical, anyway, like others, I want the personal contact with my buyers, many are regular buyers of mine, and I certainly don't want to got to a non-contact type of transaction. I don't mind taking Billpoint, but now I don't want to do it because of the checkout thing. I wish I understood why eBay thought they needed to introduce it, was it to help us sellers, the buyers, or eBay?

amber... ahhhh, I see... Most of the stuff I sell is under 1 kg and can go small packet so the Air Mail is not too much for my buyers. If it goes over 1 kg you're right the prices get crazy, and I can see buyers wanting surface. I hate this checkout thing too. I really think that eBay did this as another step towards eliminating buyer/seller contact and I don't like it as a seller OR as a buyer.

This check out system seems to be another desperate act by eBay. I think eBay is trying to kill Paypal and its IPO with check outs, as well as to further separate sellers from buyers ala half.com to prevent eBay sellers from developing a business clintle independent of eBay's fees.

Paypal needs to start an auction site because eBay can kill Paypal's business anytime its wishes to.

I did not know about this ceckout servce (or diservice.) I found out here, where I find so much about Ebay. Anyway, I went to may auctions and looked. I do not understand. Do they contact the seller. I tried to click on the two items they added to the end of the auction and got nothing. when I listed (have not been for a couple of months) I had trouble getting by their notice and Iknew not whatit meant. So I put zerosin....

I was using Mr. Lister, had listed auctions, and the only way I could move on without losing my work was to put something in...I had no idea what it was about. i remember getting no announcemnt from Ebay that they would stick this thing into my listing, or how to negate it. But I understand some others did the same thing. I am glad you got a good laugh out of it, even though it is at my expense. I think i hsall laugh now, as it is better than waiting to see what happens next. I was going to list today, but the h with it.

Alice, please don't think I'm laughing at you...or laughing at all. Apologies if I offended you.

In other threads, some said we could put a message in the box, but this dummy hasn't figured out how yet (except after the auction ends).
