I was informed again today at a different post office that they were no longer round dating (stamping) anything including delivery confirmation and insurance receipts.

Is it just a local thing or is it national?

Now that the delivery confirmation receipts are no longer stamped (at least in this area), I'm wondering if that's going to cause problems with PayPal's "seller protection program"?

why dont they want to stamp these forms?
it should not affect paypal protection program as long as we have the receipts, usps will be able to trace it internally.
does that mean we just write on it ourselves

They still are stamping them at my post office, on the east coast florida. Maybe they just "do not want to bother doing it"??? good luck !!

This makes absolutely no sense. That area of the DC is labelled "Postmark Here" so how can they refuse to stamp it??

Once, in my younger daze, I wrote the date in there. Got a mini-lecture from the PO clerk about how my date wasn't official.

I'd ask to talk with the postmaster at your PO and get an explanation.

Current rules and regulations say everything is to be round dated, even if you pay for the postage at the window the current procedure is to even round date the POS label the computer prints. This is a double check that it has been handled and checked by a postal employee.

My Montana small town P.O. will only round date 3 types of mail. I am not sure what the three are but I asked to have my DC receipts and firm mailing book stamped the other day. The head postmaster was walking by and got very upset when he noticed that the clerk was doing it. Later the clerk told me they think that the round stamp is how they think anthrax is spreading. The next time she signed and dated them but I'm not sure how official that would be with PayPal.

So it must be just here in Western Washington.

I was told this a two different POs and it was even mentioned on the news. I was told the first time I asked that they were not allowed to tell me the reason. The news caster said it was because of the anthrax scare. In escence, stamping a letter or package could give people a deadly puff of spores. Today I was told that all round date stamps have been confiscated and that it had something to do with unauthorized use and that they are trying to track down the person(s) that are doing it.

I don't know what to belive at this point.

My wife is a window clerk, there have been no offical changes. I had one clerk yell at me for having writing on one of the boxes I was shipping. Some clerks just have an attitude

There seems to be some confusion about exactly what is going on with this. I got to read the directive and it is kind of screwy.

I have been told from the Post Office (our branch manager) that apperently a carrier was approched to purchase a round stamp.

Well this put a scare into everyone so the story goes and this directive was sent out. The first thing that was told clerks was to not stamp anything.

This happened on the day I took all my order in. I got some back cause they were over 16 ounves and had no stamp on them. Duhhhhhhh.

I spoke with the branch manager to get this resolved. They would start round dating my packages again, they errored on the directive some how. He was reading it to me but I did not pay that much attention.

You run into problems when your a good boy like I am. All my packages are stamped and ready to go, I even use electronic tracking now so I basically stand in line to give them the packages and to get the priority round stamped on the stamps. And to buy more postage when needed of corse.

Basically to get around the problem you need to take your packages in, stand in line and let them weigh and affix postage on them. That guarntees to solve the problem. Or do like I did and sheo them the error in their ways like the 2 lb priority example and they will re read it and realize then can stamp them.

Basically it was supposed to make sure clerks secured their round stamps at all times.

That is what I know. If any one is interested I am sure you can get a copy of it from your post office or if needed I can probably get it Monday.

Jim

Edited to add I am in Iowa and it happened here also.

Why? Are they licking the round stampers and sticking them up their nose? It's a round stamp conspiracy. Quick! Let's get out the secret government square stamps. Wait square stamps.... that's a postage stamp. Augggggggh! We're doomed!

Little did we know, Harry Whitehouse at Endicia was behind the plot to rid the world of round stamps and to usher in Endicia's PCPostage plot to rule the world (Insert evil Hollywood laugh)

I usually stamp packages and let our carrier take them to save trips to the post office. I sent one out a few days ago and they returned it with a label that said all stamped mail over 16 oz has to be presented at a post office counter. It also had a label that said "surface only" with an airplane with a slash through it. I was going to ask about it, since it was a priority mail package but they removed it at the counter.

I thought it sounded pretty silly myself...... The head postmaster was hot though. He is 100% by the book. He has brought his big manual out more then a few times to read to me when I ask/request something I have learned about here. When I ask for "medial mail" shipping I get 20 questions on what is inside and I still think he might look inside after I leave to see if I am lying I have been doing this for 4 years and have literally sent 1000's of packages. He always acts like I am trying to pull something over on him. I much prefer getting the clerks.

Does anyone have any information on getting the on-line DC receipts stamped or signed?? That is our latest that he refuses to do. Would Paypal take the other half of the label as proof you did ship? Anyone could print that out and say they shipped so I am a little confused. It seems an easy request to have the P.O. make it "official" when you actually ship ...... but not until he does some research on it If Paypal doesn't take that as proof what good is it to save 40(?)cents? I'd love to be able to prove to him it's okay to sign it or whatever tomorrow!

Our post office has a new neat little printer they put insurance and delivery confirmation slips through and it prints all the weights, fees etc, in the appropriate blanks even if you have filled in the information yourself.

Basically they will just be running the forms through a 'franking' machine. It looks more professional and much easier to read.
