Here's what I'm thinking of using -- with an appropriate graphic.

"You are buying this item from ____ and not from any other entity. ebay is simply the venue and ebay has no power of attorney from us to contact you regarding the close of this auction. As such, you will be contacted by ____ directly after this auction. Please ignore checkout and any emails from ebay regarding this auction. Only communication directly with ____ is proper and acceptable for concluding this sale."

I dunno -- sounds too harsh to the customer, doesn't it?

I ripped this off from somewhere and reworked it a little. Feel free to use it if you would like.

eBay Checkout - I will NOT use eBay checkout! I prefer to give each customer the personal service that they deserve. eBay Checkout will slow down your transaction and give out personal information that I do not need. If you are the winning bidder, you will receive an e-mail shortly after the auction closes containing auction payment information. PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY!!! I greatly appreciate your business!!!

Here's what I created to use if checkout becomes a hassle or drain on the smooth completion of sales.

"Shortly after the end of the auction, the winning bidder will receive complete contact and payment information from Auction Watch. This is the trusted company that I use for this purpose. Please disregard any correspondence, forms or email arising from the Ebay Checkout program, as I do not use that program. There is no need to fill out any forms from ebay".

I'm hoping when a buyer reads this, they will find this sounds like the seller's peferred method of completing the sale. I might even include this as part of the Terms Of Service.

Checkout is NOT showing up in my auctions. I must be special!

In the "Checkout Policies" box on the listing page, I am including this:

Please do not use eBay's Checkout. I will contact you by email following the close of the auction with payment details.

I think it is best to be short and to the point, otherwise you risk having bidders just skim over it.

I also think avoiding excessive negative language is a good idea, but that's just me...

I like some of the anti-checkout messages, but are you planning to avoid ebay's fees?

In order for the store transaction to complete, the buyer has to send you the 'request for Àt¯¦ZätG
À¦È8œÇn you (the seller) have to go to the url they include in the notice ebay sends you, and fill in the shipping info. Then the buyer has to respond to the email generated by that, and only then is the item officially sold.

I would love to use one of the anti-checkout messages, but am afraid that Ebay will eventually catch on that I am avoiding their fee. If I go through the process of completing the sale, then I, and the buyer, are still jumping through all of ebay's hoops.

Or do I have it wrong?

peiklk,

I understand the frustration behind your words but keep in mind that the average buyer couldn't care less about the seller's opinion of checkout or ebay or have a remote clue what the fight is all about.

They just want to purchase the item & be happy..not become a pawn in the fight against corporate entities.

I honestly think the simpler & less "confrontational" your anti-checkout wording is, the more likely your customer is to read & listen to it.

When I see statements in auctions like, "Using Checkout will Make You Sterile" or "Checkout has been forced upon us by Osama bin Meg", I can't find the back button fast enough. I want to buy a product, not fight a corporate war.

There are some really good ones out there that are customer friendly w/o getting them involved.

You must all have me on "ignore," to repeat: Checkout IS NOT in any of my auctions.

morgantown,

Good heavens, get a grip on yourself! You aren't here all alone YET.

I made a purchase in the last few days & it didn't show up there either. Perhaps because the seller doesn't take BP.

I am signed-up with BillPoint but don't use it. Checkout is not/has not shown up in any of my auctions. I listed seventeen new ones last night.

I'm not entering anything in the S/H, Insurance or Tax boxes as that is all covered in my auction. In the text box of Checkout I am putting:

Please do not use the CHECKOUT function on this auction. I prefer to contact my buyers directly in order to offer the quality service I have always maintained as a seller. You will receive an email from me within 24 hours of auction end. It will contain all the information you need to complete this transaction. If you are still bidding on more of my auctions ending this week I will gladly combine your wins to save on shipping. I accept PayPal, personal checks, cashier’s checks and money orders.

I like MrP's approach! Great idea, thanks!

Although I was a Billpoint user, I wasn't showing that on my auctions. But I noticed that the checkout info is appearing at the bottom. I just cancelled Billpoint entirely using checkout as the main reason.

ebay's EOA notices are trying to funnel all the buyers into registering with Billpoint to pay. (Guess since A4A isn't going so well this must be plan B!) PLUS, in the EOA notice from ebay they are showing your shipping cost as $0.00 if you don't participate. That is so wrong!!!

Osama bin Meg? ROTLMAO!!! Good one

I put a very generic 'I do not use eBays Checkout, I will email you within hours after auctions close.'

Thats it. I'm fearin I'll get people that will go ahead anyway and use the Checkout, but I tried!

Thanks for the great idea to add the "I do not use ebay's Checkout" to each listing. I used vrane power adder and updated all the auctions to add the message in a few seconds, I am sure there are other good ways to do this as well. It seems that Meg is bound and determined to destroy eBay one way or another, it is hard to recall any company that demonstrates such continual hostility and arrogance regarding the needs and wants of its customers that has ever suceeded. It is as if they are purposely driving to drive off business, maybe that is the Master (Mistress?) Plan!

My guess is that you are listing your items via an older version of Mr. Lister. It doesn't show up on any of my recently listed items either.

Just listed eight more auctions, no check out appears in any of them.

I listed a group of auctions last night and I also am not using the checkout feature. This is what it says at the bottom of my auctions (in the checkout section):

Seller will provide instructions & return policy in the item description or after the listing ends.

I have no problem with that since I do tell in my description how much shipping will be and I immediately send out EOA notices when the auction ends.

I haven't listed anything since Ebay started check out but I thought it only showed up on your auction page when the auction closed ~ not while it's running. Is that correct?

Checkout won't show up if you use AuctionSubmit to list with.

I just relisted a couple of auctions and if I am not mistaken, check-out was an option (at least at this time). I, too, prefer the more personal approach to my sales. I hate to be forced to do anything and will go screaming and punching if I am. So, therefore I hope ebay doesn't force us to do any more than they are currently doing. I wish ebay could understand it is not the stockholders that are making money for them, but the sellers. However, those almighty dollar signs are blinding them.

I must be missing something here.

I don't take Billpoint, yet Checkout has appeared on some (not all) of my auctions. I get the eBay Checkout e-mail, but delete it unread, and go ahead with the normal end of auction note I've always sent.

I looked through the Checkout documents and it looks like you can ignore it completely if you want. If your customer tries to use it, just do what you usually do. I don't see the need for any new verbiage in auctions (they don't read it anyway, you know).

*Please note, I will not be utilizing ebay's new Checkout feature, so if you win this auction, please watch for MY end of auction notice which will contain all pertinent payment info.

It's at the beginning of my TOS.

I pity the poor person who just has a few garage-sale items to sell and is thinking of trying eBay for the first time.
