Where are you going? I am looking for a new auction home.

I think Yahoo is the most popular after ebay. Here is a list of auction sites and many have a problem because there are not enough bidders. Good luck!

I was never floored with Yahoo when it was doing well. eBay is the only auction site worth bothering with right now unless you have something that people really want and are willing to browse the wastelands of other sites.

I'm moving over to SYI (SellYourItem) - spent the weekend importing auctions from Ebay & Yahoo and then uploading batch files via Excel. Fairly happy with the setup so far - and 2 bids already. 8)

Another auction site wont really take off until many eBay sellers stick together and leave. If many would do the same the media would pick up on it, and would help even more. Until sellers say ENOUGH they will continue to do as they please. Checkout is the start of eBay becoming a huge half.com, and you will take billpoint only or not sell. Thousands of sellers are complaining but they wont work together to hurt eBays one fear "their wallet" and ebay knows it. I think a seller union would be wonderful.

As long as CO is optional, why leave?

Because it is optional in short term. In the future they want to make the ebay site like half.com and thats why they started with checkout even though thousands of users are against it. eBay wants you to use their picture service, billpoint, checkout, etc. A monopolists dream!

"Because it is optional in short term."

Do you have inside information to back this up or are you just speculating?

OK, this is what I predicted last month. I like the idea, but I am only vain enough to mention the post and not to BUMP it myself.

Checkout is another "stick" used to beat sellers into taking Billpoint. At least it's a blatant one and not an insidious one like Auction for America!

Next step will be to say that only Checkout purchases qualify for all these "protections" that buyers are getting. The "scare" stick (which they already try to do to prevent off-eBay side sales).

THE MISSING THING SELLERS NEED IS A GOOD SITE THAT BUYERS USE TO SEARCH ACROSS MULTIPLE NON-EBAY AUCTION SITES. AW and others have tried to build it, and eBay has tried to block it from their site. Ebay's whole business/fee/profitability model depends on maintaining a dominant market share, and their worst nightmare is something that puts low- or no-fee sites on an equal footing.

No single other site is in a position to challenge now, but if we had a "search all auctions" site for everyone but eBay that buyers USED, then it would be an important start. The search sites out there need better interfaces and/or better publicity. Especially publicity.

Besides loss of market share, another vulnerability with eBay is loss of consumer interest because the same stuff keeps showing up. The more small and individual sellers they drive off, the more they get like a fixed-price flea market with the same vendors week after week. Ebay doesn't want that, but they'll push ahead with user-unfriendly policies anyway as long as they consider everyone their captives.

VERY TRUE!!

The reputatuion Ebay has is that of a place you can go to find that item you haven't seen it 35 years----or have only seen in books!

Believe me, if a great many small sellers leave, the "unique" items that have MADE Ebay will also be absent.

Also, since the big retailers CANNOT provide THAT type of item, Ebay will slowly but surely become one big parade of Walmart-like overstock. And to be honest, I can't imagine big retailers being too patient with the BS that "bidders" will subject one to---not even counting deadbeats. I also don't know how attractive these "deals" will be from the big retailers, since they notoriously overcharge on shipping.

All that combined means Ebay will ultimately lose many big guys as well as the little guys. What a wasteland THAT will be!

Good Luck.

i doubt the big walmart like guys want to sell on ebay,it is too much work and profit too slim to pay their expenses.dont forget their workers get full pay plus overtime, health and retirement benefits, holidays and vacation, employer also pays part of their social security.
many of these are chains which have shops in major cities.
ebay stock just got downgraded today.

Ebay is not going anyplace and I certainly will not leave. The only place I don't want to leave is AW. I haven't had enough contact with the checkout because the first time I saw it was on one of my BIN auctions and now I see it happening on the lower priced auctions. As of now I have a notice on my auctions that I don't accept the checkout, but I might try when sending my EOA notice a question regarding the checkout to see what the buyers think. Most of my female buyers send MO or personal checks, My male buyers use PayPal. I can't second guess ebay, but with the number of sellers that use PayPal I hope they except it. This will certainly releave the hassle of the NPB or the ones that forget.

If you're gonna leave. Do it all it once. And start one of those viral email things to send to your customers. Point out that sellers are moving now, and there will be some great deals to be had on eBay the next few weeks.

I have cancelled my Billpoint account, and told them why, and put a message on my listing that I am not using the Checkout system because I prefer personal contact with my buyers. I have a question, why do eBay offer it on some of my auctions and not others? I had 9 auctions close tonight, 7 had the checkout option and 2 did not, but I could see no reason why. Anyone know? I didn't get my "No Checkout" message on my auctions closing this week, I hope buyers will read that I don't want to use it in the future listings.

Amber, is there a vast difference in price?
I notice on my lower priced auctions the checkout appears but the higher ones don't have it. My idea about that is most of the sellers don't use Billpoint so if they offer the checkout on lower end items the buyer will pay with other means and then when the time comes that they say everyone must use check out they will come up with the wild statistic that xx% out of 100 choose checkout. It is hard to explain but with the statistics it will make ebay look good. I put in my auction as stated above the word Attention in red, then I say I am not familiar with ebays checkout so I am not (and that is in red also) using the checkout at this time. I hope that everyone reads it but with the red words at least draw their attention to it.

Yes Libra, I think you are right. The first 7 with checkout option were under $5, the 2 without just over $10.
