I'm seeing a lot of new (0) feedback bidders, many of whom registered in the last week. I'm a little concerned as I am listing expensive items ($75-$100). Has anyone else noticed a slew of new bidders lately?

Hi twinsoft,

Heck, I'd be happy just to get some bidders.

I pulled out some heavy artillery last night and did my usual $1 NR and NOT ONE BID yet.

This is truely depressing

Yes. And its probably because of the Checkout, as I have $0.00 as shipping on the bottom of each auction ad. Though I put in my own wording about shipping and I will email within hours of auctions end, they probably don't see that, and believe shipping is free. If ebay sends them their own checkout end of auction with $0. shipping, I'll be pissed.

something odd...

I just took a look at one of my auctions and the checkout option is NOT on the bottom of the page.

I loaded through MisterLister.

If you use an older version of Mr. Lister [I do] checkout does not show up. I'm sure eBay will figure out a way to make us download the latest version, most likely by purposely screwing something up in the older versions.

I tried everything I could, I use Sellers Assistant and checked off Billpoint, (it doesn't show up anywhere on my auctions)
but I still get that checkout thing on the bottom saying Shipping: $0. Taxes: $0. etc.

I do, and always have put the shipping amount in the auction ad though.

funny that you asked?
i was outbidded on a piece of jewelry listed at a low price and someone comes along and placed two bids-one of them met reserve, the other one i will never know .
i noticed the high bidder was just registered a few days ago and that is the only item she bidded on.
i know the seller and she is having some problem selling her estate jewelry, prices just keep getting lower and lower.i just wonder if this is shill bidding, she spotted a bidder with interest and she bidded on it hoping this original bidder will outbid her.
i noticed other sellers of high end items ,often items are bidded up by bidders of low or zero feedbacks,or who have not been active for a long time, even though it meets reserve, yet the item was relisted?seems like a desperate move by the seller to bring the bid amount to a respectable level.

I sell new with tag clothing. I always have tons of new bidders. The one that now looks strange is I had a guy bid and then email me offering a little over double his bid. I refused to cancel auctions, especially if they have a bid. Anyway, the next day a newbie bid it up and over his offer (which was his proxy bid). I sit here wondering if he thinks I did it.

Although, I feel my feedback speaks for itself. Rating 1565 = 2041 positive, 2 neutral, 1 neg.

Hi twinsoft, yes, this morning's bids have been from newbies. I've never had a problem with new bidders before, but one that bid this morning is a 0 feedback, register the middle of September, and already has 12 pages of bids they have placed. The item of mine they bid on should sell for close to $80.

The person has only won a total of 4 auctions recently. However, the part that scares me is that 3 of those pages they have bid on are active auctions. Some newbies don't realize that they may get stuck winning the majority of those auctions.

They think when they lose out on so many auctions when they first start bidding, that their odds of winning all of them are small, but the table can turn on them very quickly. I won't cancel the bid, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks for your replies. I have had people mess with my auctions before, so when I see folks bidding who just registered a couple of days ago, it makes me nervous. This has happened in nearly half the auctions I have running this week. Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Do you think AFA is bringing in new bidders to eBay? It's sure been in the news lately.

once I breathlessly watched a week long bidding war on one of my items. The war took place between a 0 FB newbie and a -1 FB newbie. I considered cancelling the bids of the -1 FB newbie, but in the end I decided to let them ride.

well, the 0 FB newbie won and I recieved payment a couple days after the auction ended. And BTW she paid about 3 times more than I had expected to get for the item. But, I will never forget, how sure I was that I wasn't going to get paid...

Anyway, on topic, you can add me into the "would be happy to have ANY bids" club...my auctions have none.

I didn't go out and get a whole lot of new inventory over the summer thinking things might be slow and now Im thinking I might need to get out and get busy finding a supply of inventory for the winter..

My last big sale ($100+) was to a zero-feedback ID. Paid with lightning speed with a money order.

As long as they pay, bring 'em on!!!

Newbies can be less reliable that customers with more feedback, but most of my recent NPB's were full of only positive feedback. A couple were repeat customers. Now one repeat customer has 7 negs in a row, not counting mine. I missed the FVF window because I was being too relaxed in light of the history we had of successful transactions.

Lots of new bidders and so far 6 npb/fvc's filed for this month with two more to go if they don't pay by the 31st. And as for checkout, I am putting a notice in my new listings that I am not accepting billpoint. Lost 3 bidders this weekend because of the confusion and they thought there was free shipping, even though I gave shipping prices in auction description. I revised auctions this morning and found they said I would accept check out options even after I said no...and I am just a little seller....but not a happy Ebay'r at this moment in time. The season is getting ready to ramp up, and they are causing elfdom caos...

Lot's of new bidders here too! Even the one that said ..."I don't know why you ruined my clean feedback rating with a negative. Don't blame me if the mail is late. It's only been 30 days. I would have Pay Pal'd you if I knew it was a problem." I got my money only minutes after the neg. Yeah, lot's of bidders, the bottom of the barrel in some cases.
