I won an auction from the USPS on eBay, and when I received my package, I noticed that the postage cost was not displayed on the package anywhere. They charged substantially more that it cost to send, but since it wasn't on the package, I couldn't make it an issue.

That got me to thinking. Is there a way for the common person to send items through the USPS without the postage charge being displayed? Does stamps.com or endicia offer this option?

Nope not that I know of all mail must have postage printed or a notice postage was paid maybe the stap fell off some how .

bulk mailings dont have the price paid but it does have a spot that tells you bulk price was paid and give the postage number of who paid it..

Most of the packages I ship dont have exact postage on them I charge a fixed price like many other sellers do.

I fix prices by average weight and I state the price is fixed also I state that Postage may not be the same as the fixed price paid.

MY fixed Price starts at $3.95 for Item that go 15 oz two 32 oz .

I also state the item may be shipped first class, parcel post, or priority depends on where the item is being shipped I find for the Items I sell I can even ship to most internal buyers for my fixed price.

I find I never find I shorted myself on postage costs any longer this way, even with a postal scale before I start useing fixed priceing I found I was adding from $5 to $20 extra postage cost over a month above what I was chargeing.

Some times the fixed price can be from .20 to .40 less other times it works out exsactly.

At least up untill this new check out came along this past week people useing BIN have been paying through billpoint for the bid and no postage at all

This is called a "stealth indicium". As far as I know, no PC Postage vendor has yet implemented this -- it's typically used by large mailing houses who "manifest" their mail and use a USPS permit instead of live postage.

We (Endicia) are looking at providing a steath option. The stealth option prints a string of numbers near the postage indicium -- embedded amongst these numbers is the postage value.

Did you see a small string of seemingly meaningless numbers on your package? If so, can you let me know what they were?

TIA
