I found this little article on a three-year study of Ebay auction results:

It focused on coin sales, so your mileage may vary greatly, though it does seem to reflect a lot of seller's experiences.

The Coins & stamps catagories are a good judge of the over all health of an auction site Money is one of the toughest sells I know of.

selling a quater for $10 or $20 takes some really good talk and willingness on the part of the buyer.

as well as selling a used 1/2 cent stamp for big $$
