So how come I can't revise an auction? I go into the auction page, click on 'revise', go into the editing page, edit, etc....then when I hit 'continue', it doesn't go anywhere, just a page that says 'need to refresh' or 'hit the back button'. I hit refresh, up pops an eBay page saying 'INPUT ERROR'. I try again and again and again, I can't get it to revise my page!

So what is up with this. Is it an AW thing? I image host and use auction mgr with AW.

I'm having the same problem. I think it is an ebay problem.

This time I believe it is ebay playing with things. ebay has been playing with things all afternoon. Early it was the preferences on the my ebay page. Now search is acting weird too.

Getting ready to take a nap and go down totally.....only time will tell.

Usually when I am revising I have to wait 2-3 minutes before clicking the button to go to the next page BUT honestly I do not think that will work today with ebay playing around.

It seems like they are fixing the checkout thingy and everything to getting moments of being screwed with!

Ah - this week's "revising" thread. I almost missed it...

Here's what to do:

1. Download the Opera browser.

2. Install it.

3. Launch it and go to eBay.

4. Revise your auction(s) without a problem.

If you want details or have questions, please send me an e-mail: [email protected].

I haven't been able to edit an auction through eBay for months with Internet Explorer. Anytime I have to edit, I use Netscape instead and it works right away. However, I have heard people have had problems with Netscape too.

What is this Opera browser and where can you get it?

http://www.opera.com

I haven't used it but have heard it's a good alternative.

I have 3 different versions of Opera on 3 different computers. I can honestly say, I would find it difficult if not impossible to operate on AW and Ebay with only Internet Explorer. Not only can you revise auctions without a problem, it is much easier to upload images to AuctionWatch with the Opera browser. The older version I use for uploading (V3.62) will fit on a single 1.44 mb floppy disk. There's no fat, bulk or bells and whistles. Just a lean, mean FAST browser.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Nice advertisement - but you may be one in a hundred where more computer memory helped you manipulate HTML code on a web site via browser. I suspect you didn't have enough memory to run your system adequately in the first place.

I've been running Windows 98 SE - with 192 MB of RAM - for two years (having built the system myself) and I was >never< able to revise listings on eBay.

The >only< browser that let me do it successfully was Opera.

For the rest of you: I don't have the >patience< to sit and wait 2 to 5 minutes for the page to refresh (even with a DSL connection) for each auction.

believe it or not, i actually got a right answer from eBay, although it is really weird. all i had to do was add <returns> in the text of my listings and i was then able to revise them! of course they had to get the PayPal shot in, but here's the actual answer:

"Some of our sellers have told us that when listing, relisting or
revising an item, they often receive either a 404 error, a blank page,
or a "this page cannot be displayed" error. After a lot of testing and
experimentation, we've found a couple of reasons for the difficulties
behind most relisting or listing complaints. I'm going to detail them
here so you can check your system against what we've found.

First, if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser,
we've found that MSIE tends to cause both listing and relisting
problems
when your description text is excessively long and has been typed
without occasionally hitting the enter (return) key. This will not
affect how your description appears and can help stop the errors from
being received.

Second, we have found that another common reason for relisting errors
specifically is the inclusion of an older PayPal logo in the
description. Some of the older logos contain Javascript, which is
prohibited in eBay item listings. If you're relisting an item in which
you have previously included a PayPal logo, removing the logo will
often
allow the relist to go through. You can then go back and add the PayPal
logo through the PayPal site (which will automatically insert the newer
logo). Going forward, then, you shouldn't have additional relisting
problems on that auction.

Finally, we've found that using a program that builds web pages can add
HTML tags that cause problems when using Internet Explorer. These
tags, HTML, HEAD and BODY are used to create a web page. However, we
have already created the page, so they are not needed and can cause
errors when listing, relisting and revising. To avoid those errors,
please remove those tags, being sure to remove the corresponding
closing
tags (ex. </BODY>. Internet Explorer can also have problems when a
DIV
tag is used. If you are using them, you might also want to remove
them.

If you would prefer to keep HTML coding you have in place, it would
probably be best for you to use another browser for listing, relisting
and revising."

I've never had any trouble revising auctions with Internet Explorer. It is almost always instanteous ( cable modem ).
I have noticed that to relist an auction is getting more and more complicated, especially if you change category or delete/change the ebay based photo(s). If I do either change photos or category I then have to revise the auction to the new category after I relist it. If users have trouble revising then it makes for a big hoop to jump through to save 30 cents or more or a listing fee.

LOL... Wait 3 to 4 minutes? I hear this suggestion on every "revising auction" thread. Why not just use Netscape or Opera? Its a lot faster and easier than waiting 3 to 4 minutes... LOL
