How does PowerLister for eBay (http://www.powerlister.com) compare versus software that needs to be downloaded on your computer? Auctions can be saved from your browser and re-used over and over. For bulk listings, you don't need Mister Lister either. Is this a good way to go?

I've never used PowerLister so I can't really comment on their service.

I use Shooting Star and have found it very cost effective since it is just a one time fee.

This is the URL, http://www.foodogsoftware.com

I have not used PowerLister but have looked into them and various other services.

The difference between this and hard drive based software is that with a web based auction service you are actually transferring data from one website to another one (eBay). With software you are uploading directly to ebay from your pc. Which is better depends entirely on your personal needs.

The web based services are great if you travel or work out of multiple locations. They are also terrific for automatically taking care of things like emailing winning bidders, etc. (software has to be launched and told to send these notices). You run less risk of lost info due to computer problems and generally get good reporting information to analyze your business. Downside is the continueing fees (software is paid for once) and slowness of adding info to the system. (only as fast as your net connection and never as fast as your pc).

Using software allows you to work on your auctions whenever you want without having to deal with an internet bottleneck. Many packages are customizable while no online services can be. Software requires more money up front but less in the long run. It also requires that you be near your computer regularily or to have a laptop with synced files and software.

As for powerlister -- their credit system makes their cost effectiveness dependent on the number of auctions you run. you pay X amount per auction posted. If you post a huge number of auctions that could get expensive. If you only list a few you don't get the volume price break for their credits. I personally thik it's too much trouble to keep up with -- but perhaps I have missed something in their service info.

I've used AuctionWorks, Auction Watch, Auction Wizard, ManageAuctions, etc... I found Auction Wizard 2000 to be the best software and AuctionWorks to be the best online service. I use ChannelAdvisor now. It is not quite as good as auctionworks but does not charge a percentage for auctions that sell. A flat $20 covers everything for them.

If you'd like to email me offline with specific questions, please feel free to. It would be nice to see the huge number of hours I spent with all those packages to actually help someone! I could let go of that wasted time guilt!

You can reach me at melissa@[nospam]jumpstartsales.com. Delete the [nospam] when sending an email.

Hope this helps!

I have tried almost EVERY program out there, both web-based and pc-based!

For the money (I paid $120 for the YEAR), ChannelAdvisor is the best for me!

1) Easy to understand
2) Easy to understand the FEES ($120 is EASY TO UNDERSTAND)
3) Reasonably responsive Tech Support -- although "S" takes a little getting used to!
4) VERY reliable!
5) INSTANT eBay launches! NEVER ANY OF THAT "processing...processing...processing" bull-roar!
6) My auctions LOOK NICE!
7) I can launch GOOD-LOOKING auctions to Yahoo...EASILY!
8) PostSales Management is FANTASTIC!
9) I can do auction work when I'm away from home!

Only negative I can think of is: their message boards are a wasteland of BOREDOM

Hi ChannelAdvisor fans!

The website says the annual subscription is $180 not the $120 you mentioned. How did you get the $120 deal?

Thanks,

Harmonygrove: when CA first introduced fees back in MAR, 2001, they offered that $120 rate to present members as a promotion -- it is no longer available (I believe). Still, at $15.00/month present rate, it is a bargain!

Good info. Just wondering... When eBay makes updates, such as categories, how does the software get updated? Does CA send update notifications and free rev updates? PowerLister.com is updated online so no software upgrades are necessary.
