Does anyone know what the possible complications may be, if they go ahead and pull the plug on Excite@home, the Comcast Isp, because of bankruptcy. According to some news it may affect up to 4 million of us users? What can one do about listings on E-bay etc? It has been reported that it may happen sometime tonight. If it does happen, I wonder if it will be a short term thing, before someone else takes over.

I think the subscribers will scramble for alternative service, but expect problems because it could take time to establish service. 3.7 Million users will definitely have an impact

Biggest complication you face is your e-mail address. If your e-mail is tied to the ISP, you will have to change it for every online website you are registered with. I prefer using an e-mail forwarding service like Yahoo Mail. I use it to forward to another email address. So, if @Home shuts down, I switch to a different ISP and change the forwarding address on my Yahoo account. This makes maintenance and jumping between ISPs real easy.

Comcast has signed an agreement with @home until next year. @home will cease operations in February. Comcast is in the process of building their own network right now so a seamless transition will take place. Cox also inked an agreement with @home.

Update!!!! AT&T and Comcast agreed to a merger today. I do not know how the HSD (High Speed Data) will work out for now. I can not speculate on the future of this, but when more details emerge I will let you know.
