I have several hundred books, mostly fiction, that probably aren't worth the trouble of listing on ebay (research on ebay shows that I couldn't get more than ca. $3 each). Would half.com be a good alternative? Who has some experience to share about half.com?

I would definitely list them on half.com. Depending on their age, author, title, etc they may sell pretty well. The key is to UNDERSELL everyone else so you are the first one buyers see. I would also list them on Amazon.com for 'used' items, too. What I really like about Amazon is that you get your cash much quicker with One-Click and can transfer funds whenever you like. Half.com pays with checks or direct deposit twice a month, depending on your sales. You may not make a fortune, but you should be able to make up your eBay/AW fees and expenses.

At your suggestion I looked at Amazon marketplace for selling used books. They charge 99 cents more for commission. Also, their shipping credit is less than half.com, and I always like a little padding in the shipping costs. In sum, half.com looks like a better deal. The only Amazon advantage is their name recognition. Am I correct in all this?
p.s. -- I really like how quickly you can list on half.com. No scanning, no description writing, etc., etc. EBAY/AW is very time consuming. I am very excited about half.com, you can probably tell.

I think Amazon's name recognition and ease of payment outweighs Half.com. I was a little tired of having to wait 15 days at a time for payment when I can get paid in a day or so from Amazon. It's just your preference.

may be half.com being part of ebay thinks we dont need the money, look at auction for america, seller paid shipping and give away time and merchandise.
just remember, when you list a book on half.com versus amzn, you get half of what you will get at amzn.
amzn marketplace fee is steep-99 cents transaction,15% commission and 2,23 shipping credit.
it all depends on what you have to sell.

I BROWSE HALF.COM LAST NITE,I FOUND A BOOK I WOULD LIKE TO BUY AND THIS SELLER SAID HIS BOOK IS LIKE NEW.
I READ HIS FEEDBACK,WOW,NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM FOLKS WHO SAID HIS BOOKS ARE FAR FROM LIKE NEW.
you dont find this type of misrepresentation on amzn, there are some, but most complaints are for shipping late, not gross misreprensation.-BIG WATER STAINS ON COVER,SOFT INSTEAD OF HC,DIRTY PAGES ETC .
