Anyone ever have a bidder try to trick them into selling before the auctions end?
I just got a note from a bidder, it says..
"Hi. I won your auction for 'The XXXXX' game. I would like to use Paypal to make payment but I'll need your full e-mail address for that. My e-mail address has changed to: XXXXX
Please contact me soon to complete this transaction.
XXXX, formerly known as XXXX
Understand total cost is $5.99 as your ad says shipping was free in the U.S. Please confirm this."
The problem is, the auction is not ending for another three days!
I checked their feedback and this bidder has 1 neg to 7 pos. They registered in January and still have shades. The neg is for being impatient and negging another seller within a day of an autions end..
I just cancelled their bid and blocked them. Would anyone else have done this? Did I jump the gun?

I think since it was obvious they were a new ebayer, I would have emailed them first and reminded them that the auction had not ended yet.....I would have also sent them a link to view the auction. Maybe with them being a new ebayer, they have not discovered their "My Ebay" page where they can see the auctions they have bid on and what the status was on them.

I guess I was basing "New" more on the fact that they only have 7? feedbacks which could indicate that they have not completed that many transactions on ebay...

Yes I think you did jump the gun.
I would have emailed politely explaining that I don't end my auctions (possibly going as far as saying why I don't) and that I will let the auction ended naturally.

I think you did the right thing.
Just because they only have 8 feedback doesn't mean they're new. I have an ID for buying with less than 10 feedback and another for selling with several hundred. They know how to use paypal. They contacted you. How "new" can they be.
Your selling a game, which means you probably have to deal with a lot of kids.
I think your bidder is probably a teenage boy trying to beat the system and get a deal.

I wouldn't assume anything about a bidder, there are a lot of strange people out there.
I once had a seller send me an EOA email a couple of days before the end of the auction. She gave me the total including shipping. I emailed her and explained we should wait for the end of her auction.
I did win the bid but at about $10.00 more than it was when she emailed.
Some people just get too excited about running or bidding on an auction.
