I have a couple chairs up for auction. They weigh about 100 lbs total (box 50x45x40). Anyone know a good (read cheap) freight service. It appears to be to big for UPS...

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have a Mailboxes Etc. in your town contact them. You can drop them on their doorstep and let them take care of it!

I seem to remember the question coming up earlier this year and I think someone suggested Greyhound. That it was inexpensive but the buyer had to pick it up at the bus station at their end. It might be worth giving Greyhound a call.

Mailbox etc has a high markup, so that won't fit your criteria for "cheap." Probably around $350.

Craters & Freighters has good prices if you crate the items yourself. Not available in many places though.

I had a heavy table shipped through DHL. At a 100# it'll probably cost you about $200-250.

For $150 you may want to hire a college kid w/ a pickup truck, if within a days drive. Only pay upon confirmation of delivery.

Definitely Greyhound. The size and weight will be no problem and talk about cheap! Yes, you do have to take them to the bus station and the recipient must go to his local station to pick them up. However, we have shipped Very Large items and they have not gone over $100 (usually $50-65). In fact, we are shipping a full size wardrobe out today!

You may want to ship the chairs individually and see if they can squeeze under UPS' maximum. We have pushed that envelope a few times too.

Good Luck,

UPS will take packages up to 150 lbs.

Cost wold be dependent on where it ships to.
Local would obviously be much cheaper than coast to coast.
