Hello
Well it was due to happen some day. I had a $50.00 check bounce today. Lot is shipped PF is issued etc two weeks ago. I have e-mailed a nice letter to buyer. No response yet. Buyer has 51 Positives since 1999 and one neutral. I have blocked this bidder until resolved. If he does not pay is there anyway to tag him for what he would be? Buyer and I are 3000 miles apart so I see no way but to eat this. Any ideas?

I had my first bad check a couple of weeks ago after selling on eBay for 2 years. I wrote a nice message to the buyer and let them know they were my only bad check. They were very cooperative and sent me the money through PayPal after a few days including a $10.00 fee from my bank. I usually ship as soon as I receive checks, because I hadn't had any problems. And so far even the one has made the check good. I might get burnt bad so I am trying to decide whether to hold checks 10 days again, but calling the bank about every bad check is time consuming. The bad check I got took so long to find out about, the eBay time period for getting eBay final value fees (45 days, I think) was already over. That also is unbelievable.
Hope everything works out for you. I think also if the buyer doesn't answer professional e-mails, get their phone number and call. Pam

People are on vacation this time of year, I would not panic just yet. With a good history, chances are they will make good...

Hello
Thank you all for your varied advice. I don’t hold goods because of checks. The types of people who buy from me usually are fine in that department. It has been eight years since I had a bounced check so I am lucky. Check holding is meaningless as said by others it can be a month before a check bounces. I will likely wait a few more days and call and then decide whether to turn over the data for collection. I have never done that before and feel it, like giving a negative, could cause me more troubles than it is worth. Still $50.00 is $50.00. Thank you all good people.
Dave

Hi! Welcome to the Club! Bounced checks are bound to happen. I just had one recently and the buyer did make good on it along with the bank service fee for the returned check. I am with most of the others in this posting when I say I usually ship items and do not wait until the check clears...I take a look at the users feedback and if it looks ok, then I feel secure in shipping the merchandise before I deposit the checks.

I also have used www.madagency.com to collect on a bad check, and they were successful in getting my money. I tried to collect the check myself first, of course, but after 6 or 7 weeks of nothing but excuses, I finally turned the account over for collection. She paid quickly after that!

I never hold checks either. From what I understand checks do not clear in 10 days, well some do but to be sure you almost have to hold checks 15 days or more and I am not going to do that. So if I get burned I get burned. Soon the check will be no more. Everything will be done with a debit card or charge card so I guess PayPal and Billpoint will get busier. I like getting payments through PayPal. It gets to my bank and posted in 3 days and I think that is because my bank is open 7 days a week. It also gets my merchandise out of my house which makes my husband happy. He walks passed my ebay room and just shakes his head and says you have to get that room cleaned. Ya right.

We don't hold checks and so far we have been lucky. Hopefully it is just a mistake and they will make good on it.

I am starting to feel the pressure here. It will take me the rest of my life to sell what I have accumulated. I have been working all evening--it was just one box! Now I only have hundreds left.
