Today I was in line at the post office. A man ahead of me at one of the windows had a small-to-medium size box to ship. I heard the clerk tell him that would be "two days--$3.95" (which I assumed means priority) "or three days--$3.04."
I've never encountered this before and don't know if I've been paying too much for priority. If the cheaper cost was for something slow, like 3rd class or media mail, I'd understand, but the "three-day" shipping doesn't sound right. Could there be another answer?
By the way, the man mailing the package gladly took the $3.04 charge!

I think MrSpock is right, it sounds like parcel post, perhaps the address was close enough you could expect delivery within 3 days.

I ship 1st class and it usually gets there in 2 - 3 days depending on the area. I can mail 1st class on Saturday and sometimes the package arrives on Monday Tuesday at the latest.
