I am considering opening either an eBay Store or an Auctionwatch Storefront. What are your recommendations and your reasons behind it. Also, any do's and don'ts would be helpful, too.

Thanks,

No one visits Auctionwatch stores except AW clients. I've got over 1000 items in mine, but never made a sale here.

eBay stores may be worthwhile someday, but not now. Plus there are too many rules, restrictions and fees to make eBay Stores a good idea. If you want to go with eBay, stick with auctions. THEY WORK.

You're better of getting a small website of your own than either of the options you mentioned. You'll have your own domain, total control of what you put on it, and can use it for additional picture hosting. I also recommend you stay away from FREE webhost companies.

Can someone tell a very 'puter illerate person how to get a website?

Is there a place on the internet that will explain about websites, bandwidth, etc. in simple terms?

I am think about setting up a website for business and am just lost. It is pretty apparent I will have to get some help for the actual design, but I would like to know exactly what I need.

Thanks in advance.

nnt,I would suggest you start out on a free site, like Geocities. It's a good start for a newbie. I started with them years ago before I even heard of html, bandwidth, etc.

You can practice there 'coz it doesn't cost anything.

Or you can go and get your own domain name and pay for a site through a host, and then pay someone to create your site and design it, like me

I have over 30 clients and have had to walk a couple of them through a lot of the learning process. But there are a lot of hosting sites out there, that won't help you very much at all.

But I do advise that if you are totally inexperienced, it's a good idea to go to a free site and use their automatic web building templates. It's the easiest, and most cost effective way to go

I have my own site. I don't have an ebay store, I do, however have an AW store. I was really surprised that I have had a few buyers with the AW store.
I would take advantage of any free store. The more exposure the better I think. At least it shouldn't hurt! [ edited by SunnyStudios on Dec 29, 2001 08:13 PM ]

AN AW store front is a great place to showcase items for peanuts - Its pay as you sell. Some people rave about ebays storefront ( most people Ive talked to say its useless and expensive)

For the website
A free site is www.bizhosting.com its a complete package for free or you can add more space and options for $
Luck to ya

free bizhosting... you get what you pay for. I suggest not bothering.

Any free solution will require that you foot some additional work. Unless you want to invest in a merchant account or want to manually enter CC information (via ProPay), I suggest sticking with a Paypal cart. eMartCart has been useful to me in the past:
http://emartcart.com/cart

Then I moved up to Mal's cart which has worked better for me:
http://www.mals-e.com

Thanks.
