PayPal will do whatever it takes to get money from chargebacks even if it means switching one letter in a chargeback complaint. Here is my story:

I had a lady purchase a Barbie Doll for $134.85 for an ebay
auction. She accidentally sent payment to the wrong PayPal account. She missed putting a (s) in my address and it went to a person. She filed a complaint with PayPal since she could not get the guy to refund the money. She did send me the payment and the doll was sent and she was a very happy customer. PayPal has filed a chargeback with me and I have lost the case even though the case was not against me. My buyer made her first complaint to PayPal and was not getting any results. She then
filed a second complaint with her credit card company against the person who would not return the money at(the wrong email address)and Paypal to force them to get moving on her complaint. Her
credit card company retrieved the money from PayPal for her. Paypal was supposed to get the money from wrong email address but took it from me instead. We do not think they could get if from the other person so that is why they came after me. PayPal has lied to me and my buyer
about the complaints. My buyer has contacted them and told them to take a look at the complaint and that it shows that I am not the person that it was filed against. I have talked to PayPal and they have lied to me about the whole thing. Beware of leaving money in your accounts since PayPal can decide to take it from you by changing 1 letter in their complaints. Beware of PayPal who only care about themselves!!!!

I would almost wager your buyer did the chargeback on the "wrong" item.

It's a good thing you know about this forum. Damon will probably get things straightened out.

Did you have Delivery Confirmation on your item?

If so, doesn't the "Seller's Guarantee" preclude chargebacks?

Also, I would ask the seller to make sure he had the right item charged back.

If not, he should get you credit and the other item charged back.

If it was the right item, hmmm, I don't know what you can due without getting into a legal fight with Paypal.

Hi,

It sounds like the buyer made a mistake. To get rid of the chargeback, one of two things needs to happen:

a) you complied with the Seller Protection Program
b) the buyer contacts the credit card company to stop the chargeback

The buyer shouldn't need to retract the chargeback. The chargeback SHOULD have went against the account that the buyer mistakenly sent the paymant to.

Why would Paypal chargeback the correct seller account instead of the mistaken account ?

Something is wrong here if the facts are complete as stated by the seller. Damon's remedy doesn't address the problem.

Hi reamond,

The chargeback would have been based on the transaction in question. This would require the buyer advising the cc company which transaction they were charging back. If they provided an incorrect transaction, then this could happen.

The customer did two payments here (an incorrect one, as well as a correct one). The customer must have mistakenly reported the wrong transaction to be charged back.

I did not have delivery confirmation on this item but the bottom line here is that the chargeback was never filed against me. My buyer was sending me payment and missed the letter s in my email address and it went to a wrong address. She recouped the money from her credit card company with a chargeback against PayPal and the wrong email address. PayPal has changed and added the letter s in the chargeback to recoupe the money from me since they could not get it back from the other person. They have lied to me and my buyer about the chargebacks and now wants my buyer to trust them! Here is their solution to the problem:

Dear Ms. Jackson,

I have been forwarded your situation from Damon. In this situation the
fastest way to resolve this is to have your buyer reimburse PayPal for the
chargeback amount. This is due to the buyer receiving a refund from her
credit card company at PayPal's expense, and we will then reimburse your
PayPal account. The buyer will then to initiate a chargeback for the
correct transaction with her credit card company. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Miguel
PayPal Chargeback Division

My customer did make 2 payments and did not make a mistake on reporting them. She called PayPal and emailed them and told them to look at the chargeback correctly and that it was not my email address that was listed on it. PayPal did not want to look at it correctly!!

to PAYPALDAMON:

this is disgusting! If PAYPAL took the money from a wrong account, regardless of who typed the wrong account name, PAYPAL should be responsible for charging back the wrong account. No ifs, ands or BUTs.

Complain to the better business bureau and the department of consumer affairs. They are very interested in this type of thing. I would also complain to the Federal Trade Commission; they are in charge of credit laws.

Don't let PAYPAL get away with this. YES, someone else made a typo but that doesn't mean that PAYPAL should steal your money!
