Question please...I have the PayPal so called ATM/Debit card. But in using it, I find that it works at some merchants as a credit card, at others a debit card.

To be specific, does someone have experience or knowledge about using PayPal card in renting a car.

its a debit card so when you go to rent the car you have to have funds available to match the requirments of the rental car company
I tried to rent a car a while back on a credit card that was preety well maxed out and was denied
The lady told me at that time that the credit card had to have 800 availible
that was a few years ago and probably varies fom company to company
If you don't have a regular credit card call around some companys will rent to you with a cash deposit.
spock here......

I rented from Dollar Rent-a-Car and they wouldn't take any card that is a debit/Visa/MC. Most of the major one's won't.
If you buy at a merchant and say you want to use credit, it will always show up on your bill as a debit because it is a debit from your account, not a credit from your account. In other words, you're not borrowing money, you subtracting it as if you wrote a check.
It does make a difference when you tell the merchant credit or debit because the bank will charge the merchant a fee for a "credit", and charge you a fee for a debit. When they ask you to sign, then you know they used it as a "credit."
I've only heard some hotels and car rentals that wouldn't take a debit/Visa/MC, and never had a problem myself with any other merchant. I have used my debit/Visa with major hotels no problem.
