I have some antique Waterford. I believe it is Waterford because it has the little green "Made in the Republic of Ireland" label on it. I have it put away until I can figure out how to use my camera. Today I bought a glass decanter on eBay on a hunch that it was something extra nice for the price. The woman from whom I won it said she thinks it is Waterford but it "isn't signed". Then another auction I looked at said "With authentic Waterford etched mark" or some such.

So my question is: Was there a time when Waterford didn't do this etched signature thing?

Good question. I have never seen Waterford without being signed, but I guess it's possible.

I have a Waterford fruit bowl & you could look at it 100 times before you found the mark, it's that faint. So keep looking.

Hm. That happened to me with another fine glaSs piece. (I can't recall which.) One of these days I'll drag those out and scry them properly.

THANKS!

I took a tour of the waterford Factory a couple of years ago, and according to our guide, EVERY piece of waterford Crystal has the etched mark. EVERY piece. If it is a 1000 piece chandalere, eace and every piece has the mark. Many times the mark is placed in as difficult a place to see as possible, but it is there.

I sold some old Waterford a few months ago...and it had the etched logo. It took about 30 minutes to locate it though...sometimes, it's REALLY hard to find! It took the time and a magnifying glass...but it was there!

I can always, always count on this crew! When I drag it out, look at it a few dozen times with a magnifier I'll let y'all know!

I was in a shop yesterday and there was two cast metal probably iron, casserole type serving dishes porcelain over metal and they were both marked Waterford Ireland, anybody know what they were, I left them because I didn't know what they were.

I don't know if they have any value, but I am almost sure they didn't come from the Waterford Crystal factory. Waterford is a town in Ireland & obviously they were made there.
If the price was right I think I might have taken a chance on them IF they were in great condition & not ordinary.

Try a search on eBay, you might have come across something pretty good.
