What are the rules on linking off of ebay. I was told to stop linking my website but I see that my competition is doing it. Perhaps there are some fine points I am missing. Joe
If a competitor is linking to his website from his auction page it is most likely that ebay hasn't caught him yet. In other words, no one has reported him as yet.

linking off of ebay is total against ebay's rules. You got caught because someone turned you in. At least that is how it works most of the time.
As kiara said "competitor is linking to his website from his auction page it is most likely that ebay hasn't caught him yet. In other words, no one has reported him as yet."

depends on what the linking site dicloses-more information on the product is fine.
more information to get you to buy other items or the same item is not fine, link to other pages/sites for more items for sale is not fine.

The "two click" rule used to be in effect. The first click must be to more information on the listed item. There can be a link on that page to anything, BUT I think there is language that the link can't be the largest thing on the page.

To the best of my knowledge, The About Me page is the only place eBay will allow you to link to your own web site (and of course AuctionWatch's links to your store on enlarged image pages). You can't offer anything not listed on eBay on the About Me page itself. However, since all of your auctions contain a link to the About Me page, buyers still do manage to find it (or so mine tell me).
This is also why eBay has storefronts - as a controlled means of allowing buyers to be redirected off-site. It is also, I suspect, the reason eBay started charging for storefronts - someone noticed they weren't getting any money from redirects.
