Dear All,

For all of you that hate waiting in line at the post office, there are some supermarkets that contain a branch of the USPS. These are usually open until 10:00 pm and on Sundays as well.

Also, if you send most of your items priority, you can call the USPS for pick-up.

Best of Luck,

Boarderpatrol

The supermarkets around me sell stamps and money orders but you can't mail from them. I wish you could. Pickup of your priority packages is $5.00 per stop.

We have one main Post Office in our 85,000 populated city. Two substations and I guess a couple of the supermarkets sell stamps. The problem with the substations is that the workers are not US postal workers. I only get a generic receipt also. Then the next closest PO which is about 5 miles is a small post office and they also give only generic receipts. In order to mail packages I have to go to the main post office or go at least 10-15 miles to the nearest full service PO.
What can we do to get proper receipts for our packages. The ones like the major PO gives that states where we are mailing the package to. I am sure if the substations had the proper equipment to run a post office more would mail from them.

We live in a small village (pop. about 400)that has a very nice little PO. Everyone in town has a PO box - no home delivery. Two very helpful people - the postmaster and one clerk. The postmaster is quite helpful and has made mailing things much easier. I started using endicia in late December and the postmaster loves it. I was tying up the window quite a bit, especially on Saturdays. I am afraid that the size of the PO does indeed, make a vast difference in the quality of service.

Anyone go the last 15 minutes before the post office closes? Little activity all day, then everyone rushes in, I'm one of them... LOL

I love my local post office. It is small (I live in a city of 90,000 though I am closer to the post office for the neighboring city of 15,000) - The post office for my city is large, and always has a line the few times I have gone there. The closer post office is small, 2 clerks, and hardly ever a line. The clerks are also really nice as well! The only drawback, they are closed on Saturday.

I can't find a $5 to pick up Priority Mail mention in the USPS web site but I found link that says:
http://www.usps.com/shipping/pickup.htm

There is one low fee of $10.25 for an on-call pickup - regardless of the number of pieces. You can schedule a pickup at many of our Post Offices for:

Express MailŪ
Priority MailŪ
Single-piece rate Parcel PostŪ

You can request Pickup service during the regular business hours of your serving Post Office.

For same day requests, pickups are usually made within 2 hours.
There is no minimum or maximum number of pieces, just tell us how many you have.
When scheduling a pickup, please:
Have the correct postage affixed to each piece.
Be prepared to tell us the number of Express Mail, Priority Mail and Parcel Post pieces and the total weight.

Your carrier can also pick up your prepaid packages when making your regular delivery at no charge, regardless of class.

while in LA I use the PO that's opened 24 hours, last time I went there,
there was a guy with 140 boxes and only 2 clerks, at 11 pm on saturday night,
took them 1 hour to do it,
that was the last time i did that ...
in Florida, my local Bealls store has a post office, problem is that those are not PO clerks, just the store employees,
they have no idea what they are doing.
no luck with call/pick up, all items
I have are insured.

i'm switching to UPS next month.
Cheaper insurance, free DC/tracking
and about the same cost and free pick up YAY!

My PO opens at 7AM. None of us eBayers clog the line for more than a couple of minutes and every one of us tease the last one in line for oversleeping.

sun818> Try going 5 minutes before they close. It's usually clear as a bell!

My post office is the satellite which is open until 8pm. People drive as far as one hour away to come to the post office.
