I need to hear if there is a downside to listing regionally as well as "regular" on ebay. I see that choice when I'm writing an auction description etc., but I don't sell large items that I may want to deliver or have picked up by the buyer, like furniture, and so far have not seen any reason to click on that choice too.
On the other hand, it appears that it's free to the seller, and so I need to know if it does really draw that many more eyes to your auctions.
If it's such a great idea, why wouldn't everyone list regionally? But I'm willing to do it if it'll draw more "looks" to my auctions.

We list regionally. The only request we really receive is to pick up from us. We work full time on top of Ebay so it is just impossible to meet anyone. Plus....I guess we like keeping the business aspect of the relationship via e-mail, etc. I did offer to meet someone who worked only blocks from us...but it never worked out. Shipping within your state is very quick. Point that out to your buyers!

I have listed regionally since I started on eBay figuring the same as you, if someone is looking specifically for a seller in their region it can't hurt...Oddly, I have seen some seller's list regionally that are using a region that's nowhere near them! Don't know how or why they do that. Except maybe to get there auctions to come up in a regional search in a highly populated area, making them sort of stand out in the crowd???
As far as it helping get more "looks", I have only sold to 4 people in my entire State since starting to sell 2 years ago! Most of my buyers are from the East Coast. Boy do I love those East Coast people!!!

I sell baseball cards, and whenever I sell a card for a team other than my local St. Louis teams, I list in the region the player comes form. Cubs cards are listed in the Chicago region, for example. Not sure if this helps sales, but who knows. I know I occasionally search in my region, looking for big items.

Bugler1998: Thank you for that information! I guess I'm slow, but I had never thought of listing regionally for an item apropos to another region. I had been thinking that "regionally" meant only where I live, not where the item could sell. This opens up a new world for me. Well, not a new world, exactly, but at least a new acre or so of ground!

there are people who search their region or city to find business prospects, and ask to meet with you in person.
i have met a director of greyhound rescue club who really want me to adopt a retired greyhound dog,a woman whose hubby is a real estate developer selling homes,a couple looking for real antiques as they cant find any? a doctor who wants me to appraise his dubious purchase, folks who dont want to pay shipping, best is to be careful and meet them in a safe public place.
personally after going thru all these,i prefer to stay away from physical meetings.
