I found a free script to create your own thumbnail picture gallery, similar to AW's gallery. Check out a demo and download the script below:

Excellent find, twinsoft!

Now if only I could figure out how to do the auctions myself without AW's help ....

Hi Twinsoft:

Your thread has finally pushed me to register a cc here so I can post!

I'm having some problems with the picture gallery, if you have time would you offer some tips? After loading the code into my template, and testing it, all the thumbprints and the main picture show up; but, when the thumbprints are clicked on nothing happens.

Thanks very much.

Hi, Morgantown. I tried to respond to your email but it bounced back with a "permanent error." Does the code work when you view it on the page? I may have made an error transcribing it. Try viewing the page source and lifting the code from there. If I've made an error, let me know.

Hi Twinsoft:

Yes, I have been having problems with that eMail account. I did not think that my mail was sent to you, it didn't show it as sent. Thank you for responding though.

OK, yes, the code works when I view it on the page. It works in both IE and Netscape, although Netscape does not show the code in a box like IE.

I tried lifting the source code but still could not get it to work. I replaced the five thumbprint file names, plus the five large photo names with complete URLS beginning with http://www.

Thanks in advance!

I packed the code and sample images and posted it on the page as a ZIP file. Then I downloaded the file and edited the code so that it points back to the images on my server (instead of the local image files). It seems to work okay. I am using IE5.

I also texted the code as it appears in the text area form on the page. It also seems to work okay. I did edit the code a bit to remove the border around the table, but that should not affect the "functionality."

I don't know what the problem might be but I know that the script won't work if there is a problem with the images. For example, an variable that points to a non-existent image will break the code. Check your URLs and make sure there are no extra variables. (The script expects five thumbnails and five full-size images. You can add or delete variables as necessary.)

Check the part of the script that says:

thumb.src ="1b.gif"
thumb2.src="2b.gif"
thumb3.src="3b.gif"
thumb4.src="4b.gif"
thumb5.src="5b.gif"

and make sure you have placed the URLs of the full-sized images correctly.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. I've tried the code on my hard drive and online and I haven't been able to duplicate your error.

If your code contains an error, correct it and then close and reopen your browser. That will force the browser to reload the script.

How is this an AW-style picture gallery? Guess I'm missing something. I like to look at auctions where reasonably-sized pictures are shown, and if a larger one is necessary, I can click to see the larger one. Auctions with 'thumbnails' pretty much require me to click on every one to see anything. I think AW's picture support is superb and cheap. Why not use it? JMHO

Thanks Twinsoft, I'll work on it some more today. I'm excited about using it!

Hi Becky! Thanks for the Welcome.

rgrem: I'd call it an ebay/ipix style picture gallery. Plus, the image sizes are adjustable. To answer your question regarding AW, I don't use any third-party services with the exception of eBud [which is free for me until late this year].

Thanks again Twinsoft.

Hi, MT. And hi, Mrs. SC. Good to see both of you! Hi, rgrem!

I code all my own ads and don't use templates. I'm sure AW's services are great, but I host my own pictures. I guess I should have called it an "eBay-style gallery." D'oh!

The reason I posted it is that someone asked for a script like this in another thread.

One advantage to using thumbnails is that the bidder doesn't have to wait until all the big graphics load. A nice thing about this script is that it all goes in the BODY part of the web page, so it can be easily used in an eBay ad.

Most of my ads have just one picture. I'll probably never use this script myself, unless I'm selling some high end item. It's just nice to have around for anyone who needs it.

Thanks twinsoft, that's a pretty neat script. It works pretty well on pictures that all have the same square dimensions. Your pictures will come out weird on anything rectangular. AuctionWatch is better in this case since the thumbnails are dynamically processed.

Hi, thanks. The pictures all have explicit dimensions in the script, including the larger image. You might try changing the line,

<img src="yourURL.gif" align="middle" border="1" width="130" height="130" name="large">

to

<img src="yourURL.gif" align="middle" border="1" name="large">

and leave out the width and height parameters.

I don't know if this will work, I haven't tried it.
