This week I got a record three requests from past bidders to complete their transactions after being suspended by eBay. Seeing them all in a bunch like that generated little sympathy. One guy excused his four non-payments with "I travel a lot." I'm tempted to reply, "Stick a fork in it - the deal is done." Are you getting these requests, and if so, how do you respond?

I got one that has promised to pay. Says he was in a car accident and has been suspended from ebay. If he pays OK, if not, I will just re-list; this is a very recent one.--

I got one this week from a guy who didn't pay me for two auctions last October. My filing for FVF made him NARU. He asked if I would email eBay that I "forgive" him so he can use his account again....he's got lots of great stuff to sell.

No mention of paying me and no apology for my loss or inconvenience. Just told me what I could do for him.

I hit the delete button.

I have had several non-paying bidders lately.

One said she just had a baby and was sending the check out right away - two weeks later I relisted. Three weeks later (second relist did not sell) another email - "husband forgot to send check" - check received three days later. This one worked out.

The best one was the person who three weeks after the auction ended, sent me an email telling me to get the package ready to send out right away, check put in the mail. When I replied with "are you telling me you JUST put it in the mail", I never heard from that bidder again. Relisted and sold for more to a paying bidder.

The last time was a bidder who claims someone hacked their account, as they had not used it for over a year - the email bounced back to me three times. Thank God the hacker only bid on one item with their new found freedom - LOL. Reported to eBay and relisted - getting tired of lame excuses.

The rules really need to be changed regarding Non-Paying Bidders. It is my personal opinion that all bidders should have a credit card on file - then when you stiff a seller, eBay collects the fees from the non-paying bidder and recoups their FVF refunds. This would also eliminate the many bogus user ids out there. Also, the Deadbeat shouldn't be allowed to leave negative feedback, as they have not completed their transaction and thus, there is no transaction.

I am sure eBay will never change rules to fix this problem, but at least I can vent here about it.

The NPB solution posted by xenainfla is pure genius.

Only question is those bidders who do not use credit cards or don't like to use them on line. They are less and less of my sales, but I would hate to lose them. Then again most of my NPB's come from the "check is in the mail" crowd, not the Paypal and Billpoint folks.

Here's a good one. I sold a small item and after numerous emails-NPB form, FVF and leaving a neg feedback the buyer contacts me and ssys she was out of town. It had been 3 weeks already. She said she would send check. 2 weeks later I received. As I had not relisted item yet I sent it to her. No feedback forthcoming from her. One week ago I receive an instant payment notice from a payment service I don't use from her with a note saying that she will pay me extra money if I will have the neg removed. PLEASE!!!! I ignored all of it.

I guess there isn't much sympathy for deadbeats. Really anyone who forfeits four times should play somewhere else. I love the idea of automatic credit card billing.

Last month I got this "explanation" out of the blue:

<<
I'M VERY SORRY THAT I HAVEN'T SENT OUT YOUR MONEY ORDER YET. IF YOU STILL WANT ME TO, I WILL SEND IT OUT TODAY.THIS WAS NOT THE FAULT OF xxxxx123. MY NAME IS yyy zzz, AND HE LET ME PURCHASE THIS WITH HIS ACCOUNT,BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ONE.IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK HE RECEIVED, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT, BUT IF NOT, I UNDERSTAND.ONCE AGAIN, MY APPOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY.
>>

This was one month >after< I had NEG'd the winning bidder about lack of payment and filed for FVF. Winner says his friend told him he sent the payment. I said, but you were the one getting e-mails from me every fourth day - what did you think would happen?

Item was relisted and never sold. Ya think I should take the money order?

I have two deadbeats now. One is also a seller and getting negs for not sending items and also for not paying.

As far as ebay billing their CC, some of these people would most likely try to do a chargeback after they racked up a certain amount and ebay wouldn't want to be involved in a dispute like that.

I like the idea of CC required, but as we all know that prevents a lot of people from bidding (no CC, uneasy using over the net...)
So, since Ebay has their thumb in every other pie how about an Ebay secured or prepaid debit card? Then those with out CC could still bid and NBP could be held accountable for listing fees. It could also serve as a tool to prevent someone from spending more money than they can afford or more than they have on their account!

Just like to respond to the title.
Yes, you can pay for this item. You can pay for that item too. Heck, you can pay for all of the items as far as I am concerned. As long as I am on the receiving end. The color of money is the same to me and if it is legal, I don't care where is comes from.
Now to respond to a couple of other posts. If a person wants to pay for an item that you still have a considerable time after the non-paying bidder alerts, FVF refunds and feedback has been left, I tell them that would be fine, but I will not remove any feedback left, but I will add a comment to the feedback stating that after considerable time, payment finally arrived. The bottom line is we are all trying to make money by selling items. If someone wishes to buy an item, I have no problem selling it to them. But in this case, I would insist upon a money order or certified check or PayPal as long as they pay for delivery confirmation in addition to the regular shipping price. But I also don't put any effert into those requests either unless the money actually shows up. Then I act. I have had a handful of sales that way. If the item(s) happen to sell in the mean time, I would simply send the money back telling them that I thought they were still pulling my chain. (I hope I never have to do that, but it would be my policy)
Good luck what ever you do,
bp
