About 10 years ago I purchased what looks like a blank Soviet Union Passport. I found it while cleaning out some old boxes of stuff looking for things to auction off before the yard sale.

My questions are this. I know is it probably collectible by someone. But in light of Sept11 and the possibility of someone creating a forgery with it, is it legal or allowed to auction on ebay?

Can anyone offer a place to find the value on it?

Truth is since I can't read Russian, the front of the passport could say "You just lost your money"

Thanks in advance, even though this is my first post, just reading what everyone else posts, had helped greatly.

Sorry, but I don't think that will fly on eBay:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-government.html

Government Identification, Licenses and Transportation Security
The following items may not be listed on eBay:

Items that claim to be, or to look similar to, official government identification documents or licenses, such as birth certificates, drivers licenses or passports. Further, completed applications for such documents containing personal information may not be listed.

This might help with translating:

Just enter in the text, and select Russian to English

Edited to add: Actually, this is your 7th post.

If I were you Id go with my gut feeling- put it in a box in the attic and re-evaluate 5 or six years from now.

OK, I did post before but forgot. You still have been greatly helpful. I figured there may be a policy against it. Looks like it's back in that same box.

I tried that russian translator, but I the Cyrillic alphabet is not represented well on the standard keyboard. I'll dig when I have more time.

Thanks!

Since it is a "Soviet Union" passport, it is no longer official, nor could it be used to deceive.

You get your listing fees refunded if the auction is jerked.

I would be explicit in the description that the passport is from the defunct Soviet Union, that it could not be used for identification or travel.

If you don't want to list it, how much do you want for it ?

Well It has CCCP on the front and I think that makes it from the Soviet Union and not Russia today. So technically it could not be used for ID. With the security the way it is at airports, I could probably fill it in with crayon, draw my own picture and get through.

I was trying to determine a value. I have no idea what it is worth. So I don't really know what I want for it.
