Probably old, old news for most of you...but I'm wondering what length of auctions you use and why.

Most of the stuff I put up is nice, but not exceeding rare, diecast and action figures. As a rule, I can do a search on completed auctions and find from 3 to 20 of the same item that has been sold in the last 30 days.

I generally list for 3 days thinking that most auctions are impulse buying anyway and there's no particular benefit to using longer listings. It also gives me a chance to shoot mine in to end before others that have been listed for longer periods of time.

Now I'm kinda thinking about using longer listings (probably 5 day, maybe 7 max)but I'm not sure it'll make any difference.

What do you recommend and why?

Short auction's will give you good view's. New today,Ending today, with only one day in limbo. While the longer auction's will get more hits if what you are selling is something a lot of people are looking for.The search will bring them to you. Personally I mostly use the different running times to get them to end when I want them to end.

depends on what you sell

if you are selling a item that has lots of the same item up 3 day is probably best list ,sell relist.

I sell mostly collectible somewhat unique items

I like 10 day

keep in mind most peaple do not check into ebay daily the longer its up the better chance you have on the "right" two peple see it fall in love with it and decide the other guy is not going to own it...
spock here......
Live long and Prosper

I have not sold much recently, but I usually go with seven days and in groups. That way you get both the whole weekend and the weekday crowds coming to take a look, but I agree mrspock when she says it depends on what you sell. One of a kind or relatively rare itema should stay up longer. I sell stuff that is thinly traded (there is a moderate but really loyal community of traders) so I list it at the full 7 days.

I like 10 days when I can, because I list on Thursday, and have them end the following Sunday - I get 2 full weekends, when I think they get the most exposure.

If I list on Tuesday, 5 days.
If I list on Thursday, 10 days.
If I list on Sunday, 7 days.

Ending on Sunday evening (around 11:00 ET, 8:00 PT) has been pretty good for me.
