Hello. We have a strange one here!

One of our better customers, who lives overseas, recently purchased several items from our ebay auctions. When we hadn't heard back in a couple of weeks, I wrote to him about the items he won.

He wrote back stating that we can send him a PAYPAL invoice for three of the items (which total about $200), but the last item (which was worth abotu $400) he purchased for a friend, and his friend would be in touch with us.

ANother week went by; i didn't hear back from him OR his friend. I wrote twice more yesterday asking him for payment as well as his friend's email address.

Today, I got his $200. payment, and the email of his "friend".

I am well aware that this is against ebay rules; a buyer is not allowed to bid for a friend! But what am I to do? He is truly a good customer, must have bought at least 2-3 thousand dollars worth of stuff from us!

HELP!

I would just sell it to them. technicaly may be a little against the rules but since this is a long time trustworthy customer I would have no problems doing it. If it was some one that I have not dealt with I sure would not because it would look like it had fraud all over it. But the way you describe it I wouldn't hesitate to complete the deal. just my opinion. Lots of luck

i guess my real concern here is that I've not heard from his "friend" and the auction ended three weeks ago! and Now, he pays me for three of the items and sends me his friend's email address.... what do I do if I never get paid? give him a negative after all the good business he's thrown me?

Yea thats a tough one. Since he is such a good customer I would probably bite the bullet and not neg him. I'd hate to lose such a good customer over it. Hopefuly you could resell the item and not lose to much in fees. I'd be sure to keep him updated so maybe he will "nudge" his friend into payment.

Nothing like being between a rock and a hard place.

I would just tell him that if he bids for someone else, its the same as if he bids for himself.

Let them know that you expect payment, and they can collect from this friend.

Its not up to you to deal with third parties.

Let them know that ebay will hold them to account, not their friend.

I would not neg them if their friend turns out to be a deadbeat, no point in losing a good custumer.

However, I would tell them not to do this again without asking first.

If it comes down to it, do file for your fees.

Now if you word this nice, im sure they will understand.

Do hope this turns out well for you.

Sounds a little like buyers remorse to me.
I would tell him that I would file for FVF & sorry it was going to go against him.

Ask him not to bid for a "friend" again & then let it go.

I absolutely would not neg him.
