Looks like more paypal charges:

"Beginning March 21, 2002, international buyers will no longer be charged a 2.6% fee to send a payment. Instead, a 1% fee will be assessed on Premier and Business account holders when they receive a cross-border payment. The 1% cross-border fee applies to any payment in which the buyer and seller reside in different countries."

Isn't this great? So I am going to be charged an extra fee on top of the already high rates to accept an international payment? Paypal is so convenient for international sales, it seems unfair that sellers are charged this fee, yet we can not pass this on to international buyers easily. I guess I will just increase the S&H charges for all international orders, most of mine pay with paypal.

Just another way for PayPal to screw sellers. I encourage buyers to use money orders and certified checks, but will still accept PayPal as like ebay, has become a monopoly and a must.

I have defended PayPal for over a year on these boards. Well NO MORE! I just got screwed by PayPal for the tune of $130.00. I shipped to a confermed shipping address with tracking by UPS and the buyer even signed for the package but now there is a charge back on my account. This is uncalled for. I will no longer accept PayPal. There loss I give them TONS of business.

As of their announcement, I no longer accept International. Everyone has their hand in my pocket and I have to draw the line somewhere. I sell low price items, personal items at that, and I am basically giving my things away due to all the fees. But, hubby says he is starting to see some bare spots...Honestly, I am tired of paying everyone to sell..

Hi ktl5,

You are more than welcome to contact me ([email protected]). I can have the chargeback team review the issue. As a reminder, the Seller Protection Policy does not apply if the user filed a merchandise quality chargeback.

(As it relates to the international change, this change was made to comply with requests from the credit card companies.PayPal, as a master merchant, has to comply with any requests for changes to processing).

ANOTHER PP fee!!! I have been a big defender of PP but I am turning very pale because of all the blood being sucked out of me. This new 1% is destined to be 2% or more eventually.

Paypaldamon, couldn't PP find some other way to make international buyers contribute? PP is a huge benefit to them. Maybe you could charge them a monthly fee or something. Maybe you could give them a currency exchange rate that puts a little money in your pocket. Why can't PP show a little more creativity than this??

I can't take any more fees. I'm sick of it.

I now have to pay:

ebay listing fee
ebay final value fee
AW listing fee
AW final value fee
PP transaction fee
PP final value fee
PP cross border fee

Where's the next "because we can" fee going to come from?

I'm going to be listing lots more on half.com. I'm also going to start giving a discount for payment by check or m.o.

I liken it to just the cost of doing business. If you were to have a merchant account, you'd be charged a monthly minimum and would incur all fees for the ability to accept credit card payments. This is no different.

Auction sellers are new being faced with the rude awakeing of the real world. We were able to skate for a number of years, with other businesses covering the cost of our opeations. The companies that subsidized our businesses are now gone and we are now expected to pay our way, just like everyone else in business.

The days of free are gone and it will be the strong that survive and continue selling in auction format and online. Survival of the fittest.

I agree that there is no free lunch, and I do have a merchant account in addition to paypal. Their fees are certainly in line with that, and I do pay a monthly fee and have a minimum transaction fee as well for the merchant account.

That being said, what bothers me is that I am being charged an EXTRA fee to accept international payments. If I were to run their credit card through my merchant account (and I do often, I have several overseas clients who pay via credit card) I am NOT charged a fee. I can see this 1% fee expanding to something like a 5% convenience fee.

I don't understand why paypal is charging the merchant for this if other credit card companies don't pass it along. I'll go along with this for now, because 1% on a $20 sale is 20 cents. Add the 2.9% + 35 cent fee, and you are talking about $1.13 just to use paypal. That item probably cost me $1.30 to list on ebay, it does not seem right that I should be paying the same amount to paypal. Anyway, I will be raising my price for international transactions, all of them since most of them on ebay pay with paypal anyway. I think I would be at a great disadvantage not to take it, and the ironic thing is that the buyer is probably going to be paying MORE than 2.2% now.
