I'm going to be away from my regular computer for several days (camping -- no phone or power), but would still like to be able to check my e-mail and my auctions. I have a laptop.

Does anybody know if you can hook a laptop up to a cell phone, and be able to get online that way? I know there are some cell phones with built-in internet access, but from what I've read, those are pretty limited in what they can do.

Any ideas? TIA!

Some cell phones can be hooked up to your laptop. Mine can but beware it takes a very long time to load even a basic page. It can also be unreliable and I've found it hardly usable unless I was in a city with excellent phone reception

Mine does too, and I've used it on occasion to check emails when I'm away from any other computer or when I'm looking up something that I may want to purchase. It does take a long time to download and surf the web, and I had trouble setting up the software initially - needed to call the "help line" to have them walk me through it. I use a sprint pcs phone. My only advise is if you're thinking you're going to use it this weekend definately set it up and test it before you leave - don't just buy the cable and software on your way out of town. ( of course you may be more computer saavy than me ).

I use my laptop when away to keep up on lists and my auctions. My phone is with Verizon, and it's one meant to be used with a laptop (they also have the web right on the phone..but it's not easy and it's not free). I bought something called Mobile Office throgu Verizon, for ~$60. It included the plug for my phone to my laptop and free online service (and I have lots of free minutes, so I use those). It's not fast like my cable, and I must be in a digital area to use it (most all cities are..I'm often in the mounains camping), but I think it works the nuts!
I bring my laptop to craft fairs, and I'm online looking for graphics and playing music, while working at the craft fairs.

Thanks for the replies!

I'll talk to the tech people and see what they say before I decide on a phone and service. Glad to know it can be done!
