I went to the Post Office this fine morning. had several packages sent via priority mail with the electronic delivery confirmation option.
I had my trusty electronic delivery confirmation receipts on hand. I kindly asked the postal clerk if he could please postmark my D.C. receipts.
He glanced at them briefly and stamped all of them, until another clerk jumped in and said, HOLD ON SIR, we have to charge you X amount of money to have your D.C. receipts - records postmarked.
Well, It took me well over ten minutes to convince the clerk that he was misinformed and that he should carefully read my online e-Label receipts.
It clearly states in black and white the following, if a mailing receipt is required, present this article and online e-Label at a Post Office for postmark. Plus it is also has plainly printed (USPS Postmark Here) on the receipt itself.

I have a related question. I have used DC once, for a package mailed on Jan 22. When I tried to look at the status yesterday with the USPS site "track and confirm" function, the only thing that came up on the screen when I entered the tracking number was a line telling me the number I entered. Was this just another temporary USPS site malfunction or something else?

I kept getting the number with a blank page several days ago. It may have been a glitch since it has been working since then.
btw, my PO stamped my receipt when I showed them were it says "receipt." Since they always stamped the preprinted receipts, they didn't have a problem with it (yet).
I have ordered the software for Shipping Assistance, too. I will feel better once it clearly shows where the postmark should go.
It takes at least 3 weeks to get it, right?

I would download the shipping assistant from the web site.
I had major problems with a missing .dll file a couple of weeks ago and was on the phone a couple of times a day with usps. It took almost 2 weeks to get it working again. I ask them if it would be better for me to order the disk online and they told me that one was outdated and really didn't know why it was still being offered.

The people there are very nice. If anyone has any problems with the shipping assistant, I suggest you give them a call.
It was the best customer service I have ever received.
