Hello. I paid for insurance for a item that ended on EBay back in the middle of January. I never received the product. The seller filed a claim at the end of January. Post office sent him a letter stating that they damaged the item. Total was for $64.10. Seller will not reimburse me but filed a claim for me. Told the post office to send the check to me. Now my question is how long does this take? Anyone have any experience with USPS insurance claims? I am also a seller and never encountered this problem. Maybe someone on here can give me some advice. Thanks.

I buy and sell too. I have had one item I purchased arrive to me in one of those infamous plastic bags from the USPS and the bubble mailer inside the plastic bag was ripped open and the contents missing. It looked like it had been probably caught in the machinery. The seller filed the claim for me, I received my full purchase price plus my shipping from the USPS in a little over 60 days.

I personally feel that when insurance is purchased through the USPS, I should be willing to wait on the refund from them and not expect the seller to go ahead and refund on the spot.

The filer does have the option of having the claim paid to them as the sender or the addressee.

I require insurance on all item I sell because I can't afford to "absorb" the expense if it should be lost or damaged in shipment. I state in my TOS that all lost/damaged claims are paid by the USPS-approximate time: 60 days. I go into more detail in my EOA by adding I would file the claim and put them down as the person to send the refund to and they would be required to furnish any information the USPS might need from them.

If someone threw a fit about that, I would probably go ahead and refund after they did whatever was required by the USPS to process the claim. That could mean taking the package in for inspection or filling out a form stating they did not receive the item.

Have you received the form to fill out your portion? Once someone files the claim, whether it's the seller or buyer, the PO sends the form to the other party and then it's sent back to the PO. The fews claims I have been involved with were handled that way.
