from the Announcements Board:

***Category System Status Update***

The ability to view, list or bid on items in the Clothing & Accessories category and the Jewelry, Gems and Watches category is currently unavailable.

We are aware of the issue and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Yea! And I'm mad!!!!

Ok, Ok, I know... things happen.
I know this is some sort of glitch, but I swear sometimes my last name is Murphy and Ebay is after me!

I'm having the best bids ever on my items and they end in about an hour... but now they are all listed as ended with no bids because of this problem.

keeping my fingers crossed that it gets fixed soon and all the data is still there.

I thought ebay extended auctions that are due to end during trouble like this but it looks like they didn't this time...mine show as closed...hopefully I'm wrong and they will fix it...I too had many auctions scheduled to end this a.m. in those categories...had problems launching items as well...wonder if has anything to do with daylight savings time??

Yeah. No doubt the problem will be solved just before my items are scheduled to end, and I'll have to sell my stuff for $1.50.

I think they should extend all auctions 1 day in the affected categories.

They've been down since late morning. Surely it falls under some sort of extension?

Omg, it friggin pisses me off soo much.

Ebay better give refunds on listing or final value fees or something.

Why just one catagory? I have never heard of such a thing.

grrrrrrrr

They're STILL down! eBay is extending jewelry and clothing auctions ending during or right after this time, but should they not consider the effect this outtage is having on other auctions as well? I have listed 70 auctions this week, 60 of which are clothing and jewelry. The other 10 are other items, but were listed this week for the particular reason that they would appeal to the same market as the bulk of my listings, and sales of these items would be increased by clothing and jewelry bidders looking to combine shipping. Well, since no one can find my clothing and jewelry auctions, my other auctions aren't getting bids, either.

Doesn't this just make your day. I do have to admit eBay hasn't been down like this for some time, so I guess we should be thankful. I am sure they don't like it any better than we do.

Read the eBay announcement board. "All associated fees" will be refunded (I'm assuming this means the listing fees as well) and the auctions will be extended by 24 hours. I too have about 15 jewelry items affected by this, but s--t happens. At least they are acknowledging the problem and refunding our fees. I had about five other auctions end today, but still no EOAs from eBay. Methinks they may be having MAJOR problems. Given the volume that they have to deal with, I'm surprised this doesn't happen all the time.

I had about 100 clothing items to end today and another 50 or so tomorrow. I'm going to be VERY busy tomorrow now. Should I still list clothing tonight...ebay said listing should be ok, but I'm skeptical.

All affected auctions? Ya Right!

So auctions that end during the outage or 1 hour after the service is again available are the only ones affected? I don't think so. I paid for 7 day listings. Whether my auctions are ending today or 3 days from now they are still affected. I am still losing almost a day of the time I paid for.

What about the people who will have to sell their goods for opening bid (say at $1.00)? Having your fees refunded just isn't quite enough...

[i}Why just one catagory? I have never heard of such a thing. [/i]

It's two categories: Clothing and Jewelry. These are huge categories with tons of auctions. This outage confirms what I suspected, which is they have categories split between servers.

Remember the renumbering scheme? Used to be any new auction in any category got the next sequential number. Now, groups of auction numbers are allocated to certain categories. I can't explain it any better than to point out that my jewelry auctions now are 710xxxxxx, my flatware auctions are 1088xxxxxx, and my book auctions are another set of numbers altogether. eBay must have done this so they could split categories up among a group of servers.

The kind of lengthy outage we're seeing is almost certainly due to a catastrophic hardware failure, either disk or CPU. Interesting, but probably coincidental, that it happened on the Spring Forward day.

You got that right! Especially if your items are wedding gowns in the "featured" category which I listed at a disgustingly low opening bid due to the major slump in sales lately......and they were just getting some bids this morning...*sigh*. Do you suppose Ebay will refund the "featured" fees?

Another really annoying thing about this outage is there are a certain amount of listing that are available but the majority are not. Those few listings don't have much competition at the moment.

Well, it officially killed my non-clothing and jewelry auctions tonight. I start everything at 99c with no reserve. Because I did not have the crossover bidders from the clothing and jewelry, none of my other auctions ended over $3.

Can someone explain to me -

Is ebay refunding fees on ALL item listed in Clothing and Jwelery or just on items in those two categories that closed today?

The way I read it the answer is just on items in those two categories that closed today or if they are 10 day auctions. Is that correct?

So even thou I wanted 7 day auctions and only am getting 6 (because no one could bid on Sunday) I am tough out of luck on my 100 clothing auction! Does that seem right?

I don't think the outage policy is very fair. Like I have read here already, it is not just the clothing and jewelry area that loses bids when they have a problem. Especially one that is taking all day to correct!

Ebay is extending our auctions by 24 hours...that doesn't really help when there has been no access today and mine were scheduled to end at 11:00 a.m. Sunday and now will end at 11:00 a.m. MONDAY...even if ebay comes back up noone will be shopping on Monday a.m....with no reserve the items will sell for whatever...I think they should be extended from the time the outage ends...fees are refunded for affected items in those categories...unfortunately fee refunds don't make up for revenue lost on low sale/no sale...

It doesn't help if you planned on Sunday a.m. bidders. Though eBay has expanded their system outage policy. It used to be, "too bad - so sad." I thought eBay was backing up all their categories just in case this kind of thing happens?

I'm sure you can cancel your auctions and relist, though I know that doesn't help much. I'm really interested in what kind of spin eBay will put on this in the media. Probably something about installing new and improved servers.
