I'm having a problem, that I hope I can get help from one of you..I've posted over at the help board, and gotten an email back that I don't think is correct.
I "swapped" out a poor pic for a clearer picture of one of my items using picture hosting. Now, when I go to that auction, on the first page, all I see are the words that are usually under my picture..telling you to click for larger view...NO PICTURE!! I do have the new picture on the second page, if I click on the words. I have done this before and not had a problem. I was told that you can no longer do this on AW (by a moderator), as they stopped letting people "swap" photos, so they don't try to put up a new auction at no cost with an old photo (made no sense to me!). I know some of you have swapped out your photo when you photo was being "used" by another person. I don't understand why this isn't working. I "revised" this auction and another, so I could read the descriptions, and except for the actual image, they read the same. So I just can't figure this out. Anyone have any insight for me? I have a few photos that I have fixed, and want to swap them. If I just can't do this anymore, I wonder if I can, when I relist. Help!!

Have you tried renaming the new images?

I just did this recently as the pics I originally had on weren't done with the right lighting. I deleted the pics out of my image hosting and then I renamed the new pics exactly the same and uploaded them and it worked fine.

If you have no bids on the auction go to revise it and check very carefully the names of the pics in the coding and description to see that they are exactly the same.

I wouldn't want to "rename" them..then they surely wouldn't show up. I did try once again to delete them and reload them, but to no avail. Maybe I'll try to rewrite the code in the auction and list the pics different.

Kiara
I went to revise to check out the name..and it is identical..and it shows up on the second page, when you click to make it larger...so it's the correct name. How agravating this is!

dmrick - if you are still having the problem on your auction here is what I suggest

go to revise and carefully look for the picure code. If I recall it is there twice and it sounds like you only changed it once.

I didn't change it at all..all I did was delete the old picture and replace it with a new picture with the same name. I went to look at revise, and compared it with another auction that has pics in both places, and except for the actual article name, they are identical. Frustrating.

I had this once but I can not remember what I did.

If I remember I will come back and tell you.

It was something simply (I think!)

Is the new picture you uploaded the same size as the last one?

There are glitches that occasionally happen. Recently I did a relist on an item I sold quite often and the picture on the auction was the hugest picture I ever saw on ebay and I swear I didn't change anything to make it that large. Luckily a friend told me about it.

It was prob smaller..I scanned this one for web graphics..only 72 dpi...maybe that has something to so with it..because it prob didn't even need to have a thumbnail.
I know hte moderator on the help thread is wrong, that you can do it..it's just driving me nuts trying to figure out why it shows up in the store and the second page, btu not ther first.

If it's smaller than the last one, that is most likely the problem. It's only happened to me a couple of times but now I remember that's how I solved it.

Kiara is right. It works for me. But you must delete the previously uploaded pic and name the new one exactly the same, and upload that name again.

Opps, maybe you didn't read all of what I wrote: ) I DID delete the original and upload the new one with the same name..you can see the new one in my store and on the second page..so obviously it has the correct name..it just won't show up on the first page of each auction. I've never had a problem with it workign before either.

Hi dmrick,

If you deleted and reuploaded the image and the new image is under 250 pixels wide, this might be the problem. The automatic image resizing is triggered by images that are over 250 pixels wide - if your original image triggered the automatic image resizing option, but your new picture is too small, it will not appear as a thumbnail on the auction listing.

You might want to check that image size, and if it is under 250 pixels, enlarge it a bit and reupload it again.

I hope this helps!

Diana

Thank you Diana..I kept hoping you would show up. I tried to get an answer over at the picture hosting help, and Brian emailed and told me you guys had implimented something to stop switching of pics last March. I asked him to ask someone else, what the problem might be, since many of us have been able ot do this. I'm sure this is the problem..and I'm off to fix it. Thanks so much.
You might want to let him know, in case someone else has the problem.

Thank you soooo much. That did it! After days with no picture..I have a pic back again. I do have another question brought on by this. When I scanned the new picture, the pixels were 383 X 382. I checked in Paint shop pro and they were 383 X 382..yet after I uploaded, and checked properties, they were only 250 X 249 (luckily I still got the picture, even though it wasn't exactly 250 X 250). Why does it change?
