Hi

My Sony Mavica FD-71 has a problem.

The button that ejects the disc works, however, it won't eject the disc.
The disc comes out just to edge so I can hopefully pull it out with tweezers.

Any suggestions? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks to all the great people on these boards.

JJ

Do you have a label on the disc? This happened to me a few weeks ago and I started to panic and then noticed that a corner of the sticky label had come loose and I managed to get it flattened down again and the disc just popped out. It was scary though.

Also, do you have the plastic or the metal domahickeys on the disc? Sorry, I forget what they are called. Sometimes people have had trouble with the plastic ones coming loose.

I also only ever had a problem when my disk had a label on it. Since then I've only used light colored disks that I could write on with a marker (if it was one I needed to save). Labels don't work!! I miss my Mavica. I upgraded to a Cybershot, and while the quality is better, it's harder to use and you can't beat the convenience of a floppy. I'm dealing with it though.....

how big is the improvement of a cybershot over a mavica?
i have problem that my disks wont eject,it is the problem of the camera ,not the disk.i will shut the door and try again or push that lever thing on the corner

Hi YES!this happens to me once in a while, sometimes it is from the paper sometimes its just the disk(don't use the labels anymore)...i wonder also if it happens when the battery is pretty low.?.i can always THank Goodness open the little door and slide it out..looks like once in a while a disk will be a little off kilter is all LOL...good luck, i have used mine so much, never a problem..had it cleaned once in 3+ years..i have 2 batteries..cannot believe how much i use it..love it..bought it when they were super expensive & with the extra warranty(free cleaning etc was worth it)
guess they are a lot cheaper now..one person told me the old ones like i have are better than the new ones.mine is a MVC FD71 too from early 1999 I think if i had this problem more often i would also try using the more expensive disks...could be the other ones aren't made exactly right to fit or get a little warped due to weight of storage being stacked at the stores?cheaper to try these things first than have it fixed unless you are still under warranty..if you are get them to give you a new one..good luck

Hi TradersJones

You can pick up the old Mavica's on Ebay in case you wanted one.

I originally bought mine at the Sony Outlet Store in PA.

how big is the improvement of a cybershot over a mavica?

I had a Mavica FD88, 1.3 megapixel. My Cybershot is the S75, 3.3 megapixel and has a Carl Zeiss lens. It uses a memory stick, which of course holds alot more pictures and videos, but to view the pics on my computer, I either have to plug in the camera (not too hard), or remove the memory stick and put it in a floppy adapter, also not too hard, but floppy drives read really slow. It's just those few extra steps, so it's not all that bad....EXCEPT when I am away from home. If I wanted to view my pics on someone else's computer, I would have to first load the software, and then carry around my cord or get an extra one. A floppy will work on ANY computer with no extra software needed. I guess that's what I miss the most.
This is my third Sony digital camera, I think they are the best, and yes, I bought it on Ebay, saving over $200!
I sold my old one to a friend who is now thinking of upgrading, so maybe I will be able to buy it back, just for a spare.

I bought it from an individual for $499 and he included the case, and and extra memory stick. I have since purchased an extra battery and charger and several more memory sticks. And the floppy adapter. The new Mavicas take both floppy and memory sticks! Just the camera sells for $699 around here, so I was happy with my deal. Good luck with finding one for yourself!!

Hi

Thanks!

It was only the disc label that was causing the jam. I pulled it out with tweezers and once the label was repaired there was not more problem.

BTW: A couple of Mavica's on Ebay for a low low price.

i would not buy tools of trade on ebay,i usually go to a brick and mortar store and buy them brand new and with a return policy.instead of shipping fee,i just pay sales tax.
