I was wondering if we could get a post-mortem on this weekend's disaster. I saw a lot of upset people while the outages were still in progress, and I was wondering how those situations resolved themselves.

It appears that I dodged the bullet...

I only had four small auctions ending Sunday, and they were all "stock" items with starting prices that covered my costs. They were all extended, but unavailable sporadically throughout Monday. Fortunately, they all had bids before the outages started, though a few bidders did get real bargains. I had NO BIDS in the last two days of the auction, and that is highly unusual for me.

I never did get end-of-auction notices from eBay and as far as I can tell, neither did my winning bidders.

I did have one bidder - who also sells in the Clothing category - offer to cancel the sale through mutual agreement because of the outages (she researched and saw that my item usually closes a good bit higher) but since my costs were covered, we went ahead with the sale.

How did everybody else do?

I had three end at the opening bid, so they were pretty much giveaways. It wasn't as bad as I expected though as I had a good sell through rate overall. I can write off a few without moping. The ones that ended low ended at $3, $3 and $5. Will recoup my fees and cover my costs, but not make anything on them. Oh well, life goes on!

Most of mine were give aways since i started my auctions lower with no reserve ... way less than i paid for them and then the fees !!!
I didn't know ebay was down in these catagories this second time, now I know why my stuff didn't get many bids

Oh well.............that's a longggggg dark subject !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I wouldn't end my auctions on Sunday if someone beat me with a stick, we were not hurt much by Sunday's fiasco.

I'm with outoftheblue on this one. I NEVER end auctions on Sunday. History shows ebay has major problems on Sundays. Although, it has been a while, when it happens it seems to always be on Sunday. I learned long time ago, Sundays are not worth it! Heck, my Monday closings were not up to par, which I chalk up to being due to the problems on Sunday and Monday.

I list at least 100 auctions a week but NEVER on Sunday.

Hope things were not too bad!

Oddly enough, Sunday night seems to be a time when my particular categories are busy and I've had good luck there, but this is the second time I've been "dinged" by an outage. That's why I start my auctions at a price that covers ALL my costs and a small profit...that way I know I'll never have to eat a loss unless my items close with no bids at all, which rarely happens. I''m just grateful, however, that I didn't put anything really big up. I was on vacation last week and didn't have time to do any really fancy customized listings so I just pulled four auctions out of inventory and threw them up hastily.

One effect of this outage seems to be that people who got the lower prices are anxious to "lock in their bargains" by paying quickly. I got three payments within a few hours of my WBN and just got the last one (via mail - postmarked yesterday!)

Hello,
did any one hear from ebay via e-mail. They said not to send out items until I heard from them as some bids were not correct or the high bidder was lost etc... I had one buyer say she didn't think she had won but ebay sent her a winner notice. I can't wait to hear from them much longer I want my feedback to stay positive. ANYONE else have this happen?

I had a winning bidder notice from Ebay, from PayPal AND the seller. Paid PP promptly and then when the dust died down Monday, the seller emailed me and said "which item was that?" as Ebay didn't show ANY winning bidder on that auction. So he shipped it anyway but I couldn't leave feedback. At least it saved him a FVF.

Damn, I wasn't thinking. I should have been bargain hunting Sunday night. I probably missed some great deals.

I was just running stock items, so it wasn't a huge problem for me. However, I had a winner that I didn't know about and who luckily contacted ME this morning and actually wanted to buy several extras of what she had won. I was very happy to hear that, but then felt I needed to go back and check every which way I could think of to be sure no other winners had dropped through the cracks.

Ok I have a buyer won two auctions (sunday/mondays) and said she bid on another one that closes in the hour, wanted to wait and see if she won to ship. The item shows no bids. I supose she could be snipping but I wonder if the ebay problem is really fixed?

My "everything is fine" assessment may have just flown out the window.

My auctions are showing closed. The high bidder in each is the person I completed the sale with. I haven't gotten any notices from eBay about anything.

But I just got an email from a bidder who THINKS she is the high bidder in one of the closed auctions, and says she bid higher than the final amount showing in the auction. Fortunately, I have another lot to sell her ... but like hair2dye4 and sonsie, I'm wondering if others "fell through the cracks."

I emailed the bidder back and explained the situation to her. Because I charged the other bidder her (lower) bid, I feel I have to offer this bidder the same deal. ARRGGH!

I faired very poorly on Monday -- my extended auctions from Sunday.

I was trying to shop both Sunday and Monday and had the worst luck! I found eBay down most of Sunday and quite a bit of Monday.

My sniping services said eBay was unavailable -- 3 different times! I lost out bigtime.

Miffed that eBay had not credited my account either. I wonder how long this will take. I heard on another post they are only going to refund auctions scheduled to end between something like 9am-11am PST on Sunday! Is that true? If so, outrageous!

My auctions were scheduled to end Sunday night during the outtage. About 1/3 were automatically extended, but showed as not available, closed, or AWOL from search on Monday, so there was no point in extending them. The others were not extended but should have been. eBay e-mailed Monday morning that some of the auctions may be reopened. The official word received from eBay just this am (Thursday) is that they are not going to reopen the auctions, but I am not obligated to sell, and may relist if I choose. I have one bidder who knows she got a fantastic deal, who has already Paypalled, who is demanding that I honor the auction, who has requested my contact info and called me to say that she will neg me, file a fraud report, non performing seller report, etc, and ask other buyers to do the same if I refuse. I also have a lady who won several auctions but lost out on the one she said she really wanted, who wants me to void and relist all the auctions. I'd be willing to bet the farm that she will neg me if i don't.

Wow,
I am still waiting to hear from Ebay about mine, can you copy the letter ebay sent you to the evil bidders? and if you get negative feedback you can respond and explain, I don't know if it is worth the money you would lose/save for your items. Or ask ebay if they can cancel the bids on those items so you can relist and then they can not feedback! let us know.

I still have not heard word ONE from eBay. My auctions were scheduled to end between 5 and 9 p.m. eBay time Sunday night. They were extended until Monday.

Are these notices going out automatically to affected sellers or only to people who email and complain?

I had a different sort of problem...I set up auctions to automatically launch and had several to launch at 11:00 a.m. Sunday...of those a couple were relists...they did launch (surprise!) but on Monday several of the new listings and 1 relisted item had lost both picture and description. I went in and "fixed them" and thought all was well...a couple of days later I got an email from ebay saying "due to technical problems on Sunday and loss of pictures and descriptions my affected listings were being ended by ebay and all associated fees would be refunded"...it's now Thursday 4/11 and those auctions are still running...I, too, did not do well my listings this week...I listed a number of items on Saturday a.m....with the outage they did not get the normal weekend exposure and are due to end this Saturday...time will tell if they catch up...extending the auctions 24 hours didn't really help when the outage lasted into Sunday p.m....many valuable shopping hours were lost...besides, how many buyers are shopping on Monday a.m.? Anyone know what caused the outage?

hello,
I wrote ebay asked who really won the few auctions that had bids, right away they replied about one auction and have yet to hear about the other 2. What a nightmare. I heard a rumor it was the time change, just speculation (sp)My auctions this week are awful, what a waste of time and money.URGH
Maybe we should buy each others items??? there will be smart people buying sun/mon looking for deals to snipe.

there is a large article in this weeks issue of Antique Weekly about the 15 hour outage on April 7th. they (ebay) are saying that all auctions were automatically extended and the problems have been corrected.

I found one seller who had 9 pages of items and he became NARU during the clothing and jewelry glitch. But his 2 clothing auctions are still running. One ends in a couple of hours and he is still getting bids though it says Not a registered user beside his ID.
