Yesterday I created a new eBay seller ID. I listed four items and, because I was a "new seller", was forced to use Sell Your Item 2.0.

Whoever came up with SYI 2.0 should be taken out to a remote wilderness area and left for bears to snack on.

At any rate, this new seller ID with zero feedback and sunglasses has bids on two of the four items today. These bidders either didn't look at the zero or didn't care.

I had reactivated a second seller ID a couple of months now. Only one out of four customers since the reactivation have bothered to leave me feedback. What's the point of this? It doesn't reflect either the number or quality of transactions I've had with my customers.

I have a third seller ID that will be at the 5,000 level soon, and I find I am getting hits on that ID from people who think they can get something from me by threatening to damage my feedback. I think this "impressive" feedback is more of a hindrance than a help. If you value a feedback goal, that makes it easier for some baddie to practice extortion on you.

I see no reason to not start over with a new seller ID every month or perhaps every three months. Steady customers will find me using search.

I am deciding that...

Feedback. Is. Irrelevant.

To the cat, Ok I feel stupid; why change names or have more then one? Am I missing something? I hate my seller name I made it far to easy for people to bug me using my e-mail and had been thinking of changing yet hate to lose good customers. Your posts are always informative can you explain to me the idiot how this all works? THANKS

AFAIK you can have as many eBay IDs as you want.

There are only two basic rules I know of:

1) You cannot have your IDS interacting; one ID cannot bid on another ID's auctions.

2) Each eBay ID has to have its own email address.

I own my own domain and have a contract with my ISP that allows me to have up to 100 mailboxes, so I suppose in theory I could have 100 simultaneous seller IDs.

Here are some reasons why you might want more than one seller ID:

1) Wackos. I hope it never happens that some whackjob gets a hate on for you and your auctions but it does occur.

2) Different types of merchandise. A common use of multiple IDs is when the seller auctions radically different lines. You might want to use "carpettapeunlimited" for selling double-sided carpet tape and use "teddiesforeverybody" to sell those exquisite silk and lace confections that we ladies adore.

3) Different terms of service. Let's say you want to run your "regular" auctions with all items starting at $9.99. But eventually you get tired of relisting the unsold things at $9.99 over and over and you decide you need a clearance center. So you set up another ID that starts auctions at 99 cents. Now you can blow out the items that need blowing out without attracting the bottomfeeders (who can be a huge nuisance) to your "regular" auctions.

4) Unjustified negative feedback. You got it, you know you don't deserve it, but you can't get rid of it. No problem! Drop that ID and move on to the next. You can even email your steady customers to let them know you're moving.

Some mail programs make managing multiple accounts simple. I use Eudora, and I can set up many different "personalities", each with its own "stationery" (form letters), signatures and so forth.

Hope this helps.

I now have three ebay ID's - My original one is where I do most of my listing, and I've had it for 5+ years. My second ID started because a couple of years ago, I decided it was best to have a user ID for buying, and one for selling. Half.com became more integrated with ebay, so my second ebay ID now is my half.com address. I won't do anymore buying on that ID, but I might use it to sell on ebay as well if it is something that could be a feedback problem (clothing, for example, which I think can get you more negative or neutral feedback) - I now have a 3rd ID just for buying.

As long as you don't bid on your own auctions with the ID's, or any other unethical way to use an ID whatever that might be, it is okay to have multiple ID's - and probably a good idea to do.
