Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation for First-Class Mail Parcels
The Postal Service will add two new special service options for First-Class Mail parcels: Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation. Both services will be available in manual (retail) and electronic options. The fees for Delivery Confirmation will be $0.55 (retail) and $0.13 (electronic). The fees for Signature Confirmation will be $1.80 (retail) and $1.30 (electronic).

For the purposes of adding Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation, a First-Class Mail parcel is defined as any piece that:

(a) has an address side with enough surface area to fit the delivery address, return address, postage, markings and endorsements, and special service label; and

(b) is in a box or, if not in a box, is greater than 3/4-inch thick at its thickest point.

This definition will provide mailers many different packaging options if they want to use Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation for their First-Class Mail parcels.

This is going to make my job easier.
Finally those first class packages won't go MIA anymore.

Of course, ever since Monday (Tax Day) the tracking facility at USPS has been unavailable...

adding 2.35 dollars to first class package, then how about insurance of 1.10 or more, how much does the whole deal cost??
why not skip dc and just have the signature receipt, why have both??
another issue is ebay bidders are willing to stand in line at post office and file claim when item is damaged,if you have a shop, and customer pays good money ,it is not good policy to ask your customer to go through all that hassle, afterall it is not the customer fault the item is damaged.
as your business grow, consider ditching usps and go with fed exp or ups.

Where are you getting $2.25 from?
It states delivery confirmation will be $0.13 electric, That means your small 2 ounce item can be shipped with DC for $0.73 find me a UPS or FEDEX rate with tracking for leass the na $1.

What tracking? Delivery Confirmation isn't tracking.

i get the numbers from YOU,i mean non electric.
none of the usps stuff really fulfill our needs to make sure the item is delivered to the buyer safe and sound, you have to combine a few -like dc and insurance, like signature and insurance.
but most packages do arrive if labeled correctly and packed well, with or without dc and insurance.

jrb3 - I don't know too many boxes that weight only two ounces. So, we're talking around a 6x4x2 box to accomodate the address (return, delivery), postage, and delivery confirmation. You could get away with a smaller size, but we found 6x4x2 to be the minimum for us.

Daruma: the fee for Signature Confirmation includes Delivery Confirmation, so it's $1.80, not $2.35.

Anyone got the USPS address for the Electronic Delivery Confirmation? I had the form bookmarked but now when I access it, I get an error. Has the address changed?

and what about the place to stamp FIRST CLASS MAIL,INSURED ?
if an item warrants signature and insurance, then seller may as well ship usps priority using their box.

There seems to be much misinformation about Delivery Confirmation on these boards.

In the interest of community service, here are some facts about Delivery Confirmation:

1. It is not a tracking number. DC simply tells you that a package was delivered.

2. Express Mail and Certified Mail are the only domestic services that have tracking numbers (I think).

3. PayPal does not consider DC to be the same as a tracking number. If you think you are protected against chargebacks by using DC, you are wrong.

4. If your package is lost in transit, DC will not help you.

CELINDRA - I could have sworn that Damon has stated that delivery confirmation IS acceptable to PayPal as proof that you mailed the package, and that you were covered for this by PayPal. Could I have misunderstood?

Why isn't DC considered tracking? The last package I used it on when checked the history went like this accepted Fairgrove at xxx time; arrived Royal Oak at xxx time; arrived yyyy(I cannot remember the city) at xxx time; Delivered Everett at xxx time. That appears to track where the package has been to me.

I have been using Shipping Assisant that I downloaded from USPS. Will it autmatically have the new rates in it after June 30th? Or is there a way to upgrade it?

All my packages that have DC act same as tracking.

It shows wehere it has been and when it was delivered.

As far as size goes I use 00 padded mailers and these will fit the label fine I have already tried it.

The $.13 will save a bunch.

I ship tons of single jewelry items that weigh under 5 ounces this will save me a bunch on lost packages.

JUST A FYI PAYPAL does consider DC as proof of delivery, against chargebacks as I have used it to dismiss no0ndelivery chaeges.
