Ok here goes. Maybe some of you can answer this for me. I sell an item on ebay. 10.00 total. After 3 different "oh payment is on the way" Same old line. I ask them to pay paypal if they would not mind so we can get this small transaction completed. Ok so he does. I send the item. I just get an email from him telling me he got the item and is very happy then he says quote.

"Just wanted to let you know that I receiced the XXX today, and I'm very pleased with it. However, I was informed by eBay that there was a problem with my paying through my PayPal bank account. It's too late for me to do anything to try to straighten it out at the bank today, but rest assured I will do my utmost to take care of it first thing tomorrow. Thank you again for your patience, and I'm sorry about all the problems. This is the only transaction that I've had go like this. It almost seems as if there was a curse on it from the beginning, but I will take care of things and one way or another make sure that you get your money and the most positive feedback I can think of."

What in the heck does he mean by that. What does eBay have to do with him paying thru paypal or not? I have not heard a word from paypal (or ebay for that matter) and his payment was completed right then and there.

How would ebay even know he paid me thru paypal?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Can't help with most of your question.
But if it show's in Paypal as completed and your money is there.
I would mail him and tell him not to worry.
That everything is just fine.

Thanks Dad,

I did do that and I asked him to let me know exactly what ebay said if he would not mind. I do not accpet any ebay payments only checks, money orders and paypal. so I just can not figure out why ebay would care or how they even know. Pay got notification from paypal and the money was there and I thought that was that.

I will post what he tells me if he answers my email.

Thanks RB I will.

Here is the email I just got from him
"The people at eBay didn't specify what the problem was. They just said that
I needed to contact the customer service people at my bank to talk to them
about your payment and another I though I made through the PayPal bank
account set-up. At this point I am as mystified about the whole thing as you
are--probably more, since you obviously know a lot more about it than I do.
Maybe I will know more tomorrow when I talk to the people at my bank. One
way or another, I promise I'll let you know what I discover, okay? And I
also will make absolutely sure that you get paid for the XXX."

This is getting really strange. My husband says he is just a nut. Since we had so much trouble getting him to pay in the first place. He has sent some strange emails. I am just at a loss as to what in the heck ebay has to do with this payment.

how did he pay via paypal-his fund or credit card??
i think he means something is wrong at the source??
if he transfer fund from his bank account to his paypal account,he may have an overdraft situation on his hand, sometimes it is timing, which debit comes in first??paypal or mobil or kroeger or walmart??
someone did not get paid ,he maynot know who??

Stopwhinning. I do not know what he used to fund it? My paypal notification does not say. My main question is what does "eBay" have to do with it. If he has an overdraft problem or anything why is ebay involved? It is a bit scary to think that ebay might know when a buyer pays you thru paypal and if there is a problem with that. I would think that would be between him and his bank nothing to do with ebay.

I have not heard anything from paypal since they sent me the notification of the completed transaction of his payment.

Why does ebay have their nose or voice involved in this at all? I am really curious now

drivingmetodrink, actually you can go to the paypal website and find out how the buyer paid. Click on the transaction on your account page. Obviously, the buyer didn't pay by "e-check" so it might have been a credit card by way of "check card" or debt card."

Therefore the buyer may have been overdrawn. Maybe eBay is telling the buyer what they are cause they may have paid eBay with the debt card and it bounced.

Good luck.

Maybe they don't. Could be he meant to say PayPal not eBay. I see people here talking about sellers when they mean buyers and vice-versa all the time. It's an easy thing to do.

If he had sent you an eCheck, PayPal would have notified you to ship when the eCheck cleared. It would have "pending" in your transaction log until it cleared, then it would have shown "completed". If that transaction is shown as completed, now might be a good time to transfer your funds to your bank account.

He probably wanted to pay for the item through ebay.

Thanks Sulyn I did not think of that. Maybe he does mean paypal and not ebay. I guess I will find out tomorrow I hope.

The transaction notification from paypal came in as complete. it was not an echeck. This was only a 10.00 payment. I have taken the money out already, I have never had a problem with paypal since joining (knock on wood)I hope I still have no problem with them.

Or, he could have used his credit card and hit his max - then eBay tried to bill his card that day.

eBay >hates it< when that happens.

quickdraw he never mentioned wanting to do that. I got the usual "money order in the mail" twice then it was a "check is in the mail" none of thses ever arrived so I asked if he would mind using paypal so we can get this done. The payment type on my paypal history for this transaction says "payment type instant" All this hassle for 10.00 Why me? (I need a drink)

You maybe getting set up. If I were you, I would withdraw all of your money from your account now. If PayPal thinks there is a problem, they will lock your account and you won't be able to get your money for months if ever. If you have your money out, then at least you won't have to worry about that. Protect yourself first then let them work it out.
Good luck,
bp

If you do take steps to protect your money (withdrawing from PayPal) I hope they don't have access to your bank account.

Well I think PayPal does have access to your account that you put your money in. My opinion, because I won an auction and didn't have enough money in PayPal and they took the rest from the checking account that I use. I might be wrong, but when you give them your bank account number in which to send your money to they can also take it out.

Libra63: Which is why clever campers don't register their personal checking account with PayPal; they register one that has little to no funds in it.

I would never ever let PayPal know of the existence of my personal or business checking account. Pretty soon the $75 mill they raised in the IPO will be gone...

I think this has nothing to do with you. Sounds like this guy is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He probably owes ebay some money for listing, didn't pay, was overdrawn, or whatever, and has the entire transation confused with yours. I'd put money on it. Paypal confirms a money transfer and that's that. You can't take it back unless you cancel it with your credit card. You have to have a good reason to win that one. I tried with aol. took me 11 months to get my money back. I think Paypal has a bad wrap. Correct me if I am wrong. Been doing it for 4 years.
Thanks

Ive a very easy way out of this mess - Log on to paypal go to the request payment tab enter all the transaction info and send your bidder an invoice. Then email him that ebay is a separate entity from Paypal and to make sure he was going to the correct site youve sent him a paypal invoice - please follow instructions on the invoice to make payment - give him 2 days to do something then file NPB if no response. Sure speeds things up. Ive had bidders string me along until the time elasped for npb - I dont allow it anymore. Good Luck to you.
