I'm getting a LOT of emails these days that automatically want you to open an attachment, they have it wired now where that just pops right up (in outlook express it does anyway) that says would you like to open this? And it is ALWAYS a virus. If you are not sure about anything that contains an attachment, forward it on to:

[email protected]

If it IS a virus they will immediately email you back (usually within a minute) that is a virus and do not open it. If it's not a virus they won't email you back. They are .gov and they are out to track these people down and put them out of business. So you are doing us ALL a favor if you will forward suspect email onto them.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I don't as a rule open attachments from strangers anyway, but I'll start sending these messages to graywolf. Wish I could send all that porno crap that I get in e-mail to some agency too.

I saved that email address under Virus in my address book so that everytime I get one of those emails, all I have to do is hit forward and V for virus.

I am getting lots too. Thankfully, my ISP catches them and notifies me before it ever hits my in box! They are coming from all over from people I never heard of. And one I kept getting had Microsoft Security updates in the subject! (I blocked THAT sender, and subject in case it comes from different people) If I want updates, I will go to MS and get them.

I am certainly glad that I am not the only one getting all the porno emails. They have been coming for a little over a month. Where do you think they get our email address. My ISP says that they can't stop them because they have to many different addresses. They say that the porno sites move around fast so nobody will find them. I did write to abuse at Yahoo because that is where the majority of them come from, but I can't block Yahoo because buyers have their email address there. I sure hope it stops soon. Here I thought I was the only one getting them. I did open one and there is no place to be removed from their email. So now I just hit the back button and swish they are gone.

How can you forward an email without opening it? I can't do it on Outlook Express so I tried another mailbox and couldn't do it from there, either. ??? If it's a virus, you wouldn't want to open it first, then forward.

I was getting a lot of these SPAM messages with Korean or some other strange language characters in the headers. I ended up cutting and pasting a row of these characters into my auto delete box and it seems to have stopped about 90% of them.

As to where these SPAMmers are getting your email address, why do you think eBay et al insists of having your personal info? Every time they come to you to get a little more info like a photocopy of a utility bill or your work phone number (under the guise of checking your registration), that info goes on their "For Sale" block ... it's big business selling information data these days and eBay has millions of "items" to sell.

I get the porn spam, too. Worst are the ones with the pix right up at the top. (I'm glad I don't have any small children who might get into my email!) One had pix of necrophilia stuff - and the bodies were mutilated. Even if it was simulated, it was SICK!

I used to send them to my state AG and my state senator, but they say they can't do anything. There's too many, and they keep moving.

I think if people want porn, they know where to find it. Nobody should get it because they filled out a survey on Suzy Homemakers site and she sold their names to Sandbox, who sold their names to.....

I agree. I hate having this stuff crammed down my throat and forced on me. If I wanted to see it, I'd have no trouble finding it on the net all by myself.

Unfortunately, for every one of us who wants nothing to do with this sh1t, there are ten others who do. Porn is the fastest growing money maker on the internet and if they SPAM 10,000 of us, the odds of getting new "customers" are fairly high.

I don't buy the "there are too many of them to deal with" argument made by the politicians. Get new politicians who *will* deal with the problem instead of the lazy ones you have now (who probably subscribe to the smut themselves).

Actually, my state senator, a woman, IS concerned about the porn issue. Unfortunately, most of her colleagues are not.

I have no problem with adults who want to look at the stuff, but I am adamantly opposed to sending it unsolicited to unsuspecting people. I don't think it should be sent to anyone who ever opted-in to advertising, never suspecting it would lead to porn. There should be some waiver on all opt-in pages allowing you to opt-out of porn!

Since I get so much spam I have blocked many of the e-mail addresses and if it's really nasty porn I turn them into SpamCop.

What I really wish is that there was a "Return To Sender" feature with e-mail.

A problem with many of these spams is the spammers are stealing peoples e-mail addresses. I had my main e-mail stolen and is now being used to send spam for one of those refinance companies. I had to go and change all of my info and get a new e-mail address. I found that so many people blocked my old address because of the fraud spreaders, that many times I was e-mailing auction winners to only have the e-mail come back to me undeliverable. It took me a while to figure it out until I got the spam in another e-mail address of mine. For those people, I started sending the WBN ect from a different e-mail and they were going through.

Blackdog: Who is your state senator (the woman)? What state? I'm in Calif. and good friends with a soon-to-be-elected Democratic woman legislator. If you're in our state, perhaps my friend can team up with your senator.

SpamCop has a website, www.spamcop.com, where you can report spam. You can give them the address only or full headers and the body of the letter. I don't know if there is a charge or not, could be for new members, maybe not. They do have a mail filtering option that does have a charge.
