After about 8 bid retractions this week and many NPB, I am about to explode. Every one of the was from a new bidder, yes, I was once a new bidder and had to learn too, but it just seems the non payers come in DROVES!. Now, don't get me wrong, I have had MANY new bidders who were great. Does anyone have any advice to share? I don't want to sound harsh, but with about $1,500 of my inventory tied up with non paying new bidders, I am about to scream. All the retractions had really lame excuses like--
Retracted
Explanation:I was over bid $239, so I bought another, then higher bid was retracted
The reserve wasn't even met on this one.
Another wrote "I bid wrong amount"
Has anyone else had a problem with this and how did they handle it? I want to put something in my auctions like" Non paying bidders, bid retractors and the like will be eaten by the hounds of hell" but I don't think that would work . I read an earlier thread that said a test should be given in order for people to be able to bid.. Good Idea!

Its a pain but all you can do is to report them to ebay if they have too many bid retractions.
I would put them on my bidders block and just move on.
For too many of them its just a big game because they know that there is no price to pay for their amusment.
For others its like a cheap shopping trip, bid on everything and then only pay for the cheapest they can find.
The best you can do is to not let them get to you.
Its too bad public flogging is no longer allowed. Now that might drop the stress levels a bit.

I had a newbie buyer retract a bid and when I checked her bidding history, she was using bidding instead of watching. She would bid on all the items she was interested in and then retract when she found it cheaper!

I emailed her and nicely explained the difference and the problem she was causing with retractions. She emailed back "this way works for me, live with it".

She is now one of my blocked bidders.

I think the most newbies now they can get as many new "clean slate" accounts as they want easily ( with a wallet or purse full of credit cards ) and they no longer take threats of an eBay suspension seriously.

I also believe that eBay knows it is a rapidily escalating problem and eBay is rushing to get it's fixed price revenue in place where deadbeats are not a problem. The days of buyers paying sellers are coming to a close. The days of buyers paying eBay and eBay then paying the sellers is becoming more and more common ( Half model ).

what do you sell ??
if you sell something which is plenty on ebay, you will get biders who cant resist retracting their bids as they find cheaper prices elsewhere.

Are you listing your items way below what they are worth? Like at a penny or a dollar then let the bidding take it up. If so, you may be getting bids from the other sellers you are screwing by putting the bidding price too low. The others sellers could be using their other id's to get your price high enough so their own items will get bids on them. Then retracting the bids when their items sell.
