Has anyone ever sold a Car? How did you do.
Is it difficult to do?

My son-in-law has an avenger he wants to sell and I want to find out all the particulars before I list it. It has a clear title so no problem there. There are some minor things to the body. No accidents.
Do I take pictures of everything, like the minor things? He is not the original owner.
It is a 5 speed, 4 cylinder with 66,000 miles.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am leaving to go to Lake Geneva for the day but will return to night. Thanks

My advice to you is the same I tell all of my friends. Don't list it on ebay. This catagory has the highest amount of deadbeats than any other on ebay today. What is happening is many bidders are bidding just to see how high the price will go. You are much better off listing it at a specialty site like carsoup or autotrader.
Good luck.

Just visited autotrader. Does it belong to eBay? If so why do they eBay motors? Sorry for all the questions.

No autotrader does not belong to ebay, but they do have a partnership. It would be much safer than ebay motors for you. The ebay fees will kill you and with autotrader or carsoup, it is a one time fee until the car sells.

I have tried selling a couple collector cars on eBay. The last one got over 3000 hits, perhaps a 100 email Q's, no high bidders. If I were selling your Avenger, I'd do it though local papers or Autotrader its cheaper. less hassle, you should get a better price. Avengers are very "in" with young car buyers!

Just curious where you got that information.

vidpro2,
Take a look at all of the cars listed and check out who is bidding on them. It won't take you long to see it for yourself. And as I stated earlier, oh I may have forgotten one more point which is I have had a few friends not take my advice and went ahead and listed anyway. All of the auctions had many bids, but did anyone of those actually get their cars sold. In most cases, the reserve got met and then the bid got retracted within minutes of being left. In the other two cases, the bids were left and no payment was ever received. And my friends were out the $40.00 listing fees. $40.00 for a week of listing as opposed to $25.00 listing fee at carsoup and it stays listed until it sell. Which would you do? Pretty much a no brainer for me.

Just Curious...

caffeitalia, What were the item #s of the auctions that your "friends" ran.

caffeitalia is right though from my observations that ebay motors does have a higher % on non-paying newbie's. But there is also allot of people who bid on cars and drive up the prices and purchase the car.

To avoid problems with ebay motors, if you decide to list, spend time with the auction listing and also you might research shipping options for your car, especially if your are in the boonies. If you have shipping options, you will get a higher bids. One last thing, don't be afraid to cancel bids .

Thanks to all who responded. When you need help this is where you come and I appreciate everyone. We live in a central location just north of Chicago so it is within easy driving from almost every where. Lots of things I didn't even think about in selling a car. Well again thanks to all.

mortis,
I don't track my friends auctions by number, however even if I had, it has been to long to view them any more. My main point was that IMHO it is just too risky to list cars on ebay and expect to actually sell it. Personally, if I were buying a car, I want to put my hands on it and check out the condition of it which autotrader and carsoup allow time for that. Ebay, no time. You have to buy now and hope for the best because of time restraints of the time limits of the auction. And at least with car soup, the have a partnership with lemon-busters which send out a independent mechanic to inspect the car for those you are not car literate. Ebay don't do this. So what happens is you get all of these deadbeats bidding just to drive up the price but actually win or even if they do, they don't pay up.
