I buy designer items quite a bit on ebay. I like vintage items such as: Pucci, Chanel, Halson, Mr. Dino and...well you get the picture.
About two months ago, I purchased a vintage designer dress from a seller on ebay. I paid immediately. After 2 weeks I contacted her and I got no response. I waited another week and she finally responded by saying she was out of town on a family emergency and would ship the dress when she got back. No problem. Things happen.
I got the dress about two weeks ago. It was a fake. I know my goods and it was a poorly done one at that. The label had been sewn in from another garment and the designer's signature was no where to be found.
I emailed the seller several times she finally returned my emails after I threatened to file mail fraud charges. Her unedited letter follows.
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!! SCAMMER! THIEF! MY ATTORNEY SAY YOU HAD BETTER NOT TRY YOUR SCAM AGAIN. YOU GOT AWAY ONCE SINCE I WAS TO ILL TO FIGHT YOU. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. I AM REPORTING YOU TO EBAY FOR BOTHERING ME. YOU HAD BETTER NOT CONTACT MY BIDDERS AGAIN. I WILL SUE YOU THIS TIME!
I had never heard of this person until I purchased the dress. I noticed that the email she sent the letter from was different from the one ebay had in the EOA. I did a seller search with that email and it pulled up another account with lots of negs for selling fake items. I have reported her to safeharbor.
She is not responding to any of my emails.
Her PO BOX is in a city that is a few hours away from me. Do you think contacting the police about her would be worthwile? Will ebay insurance cover a situtaion like this?

Start the ball rolling on an insurance/fraud claim through Ebay. Also, contact the company whose label was sewn into your item and let them know she is selling fake items with their name on them. Their attornies can get more results than the police.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

That email that she sent you sounds like it was for another buyer that has been caught in her web and is tired of receiving fakes.
If she is to ill then it's time that she hangs it up and gives eBay a rest. Sounds like eBay burnout to me. Good Luck in persueing this matter, keep up posted.

This certainly appears to be a scammer, and not a particularly intelligent one at that!
I suspect that it is unlikely for you to get your money back, and you have to ask yourself how much more time and energy you wish to waste on this sad ebay example.
I would file a report with ebay for sure, and with Paypal if you paid that way (goods not as described) but then move on.
From the tone of the abusive email they sent you, someone is exacting revenge on them! Perhaps we will read about them in the paper in the future.

How old are the feedbacks saying they received fakes? If this has been going on for a while then this seller is definitely a scammer; if not, if she sold these all at once and didn't know they were fakes she may be a victim too, and may stop selling them. In that case I wouldn't report her as long as she returned your money. But if it's been going on for a while don't hestitate reporting her.

You are correct Jackswebb, this one is getting good.
If you check her feedback it now says:
Sorry, this user is no longer at eBay! The user that you have requested information about has requested that we close their account entirely. As part of the agreement, and in accord with our Privacy Policy, eBay has ended all contact with this user and removed all associated information about this user, including their Feedback Profile and About Me page [if they had one].
Read more information about our Privacy Policy.
I got a few emails from other bidders that I contacted before her feedback and info was deleted.
Her letter to me makes more sense now.
She has sold fake items under several ids. She has a brother or husband (depends on who you talk to) that sends out letters threatening legal action for defamation if the buyer leaves negative feedback.
She lives in Florida (as do I). Some bidders in Florida threatened to take her to court and file fraud charges. She refunded the money but they did not give her the items back. They turned them over to the designer. The designer went after her. She stopped selling their items. She signed up under another id and started selling other designer fakes. It looks like she thinks that I am one of the bidders that turned her in to the designer.
I have been getting emails from an anonymous remailer for the past 2 days. They read like this:
YOU BROKE THE AGGREEMENT! I WILL SUE YOU!
I AM TELLING YOUR NEIGHBORS YOU WEAR WOMENS CLOTHES
CROSSDRESSER!!! GOD HATES YOU!!!
There are about 11 other emails that are similar.
I have reported her to ebay. I am also going to report her to the authorities here in Florida. She is crazy.

You might also get a restraining order against her. If the emails continue she would face other legal charges. You could get a court order against the anonymous remailer and then her ISP to release the IP records. That would prove that her computer initiated the emails. I guess it depends on how far you want to chase a diseased rat.
