Can anyone tell me how or if I can ship a very large package? Ideally, it would be 60 inches long/34 inches wide and 12 inches deep...but weigh only about 12 pounds. I logged onto both the USPS and FedEx sites and both said the package is "too large to mail". Any suggestions? Thanks...

Contact one of your local common freight carriers, like central Motor Freight. You should be able to locate them in the phone book under trucking or some such listing. Or from your PC, searching for the same catagories in your area.

You could ship Airborne Express Ground. But it would get a hefty oversize fee.

I checked to see what it would cost, to ship your package from GA to NY and it would cost about $70.00.

You may want to try Greyhound.

GO TO THE REAL LIFE, REAL TIME POST OFFICE. SOMETHING ABOUT 96 INCHES. I HAVE SENT MANNIES, AND ALSO UPS TOOK THEM. THERE IS NO WEIGHT ONLY BULK. DON'T GO TO ANY TRUCKING LINES ONLY AS A LAST RESORT. THAT GREY HOUND MAY WORK TOO. NEVER DONE IT.

You might try this shipper also.

Try transposing the 60 and 34 on the measurements and see if it will fly. If not, transpose the 34 and 12. Enter these new measurements on both the FedEx and UPS sites and see if either one will accept it. I did that last month on a sign I sold and FedEx took it as oversize after first rejecting it.

You think you have a shipping dilemma. I wonder who JACKSWEBB is going to get to transport that coffin?

Thanks Jack...I've seen a million of them transported at 10mph. I've never had occasion to inquire as to who transports them when they're EMPTY. I'll remember Yellow Freight Lines just in case I get lucky like you did at the swap meet this weekend.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for Greyhound Package Express. Here's some background information on them:

Thanks again...looks like Greyhound will be the way to go. Relatively reasonable cost...speedy delivery...and, best of all, they WILL carry the oversized package! Thanks for help...I never would have thought of that on my own!
