Hello Everyone,

I am posting this as a part of the fundraising effort at our local school. They are collecting donations for the General Mills Box tops for education as a fundraiser that is sponsored by our schools PTA that I am a member.

What we are collecting them for is funding for special education programs. With the budget short falls that happened this past year from the legislature, one of the areas that is going to trimmed back is the special education for the slightly slower kids. I for one don’t want that to happen. So with your help, we can at least keep the program alive. With some additional help this summer, we can get a head start to help get the programs back to where they need to be.

Anyway, one of the things my Daughter’s elementary school is doing to raise money is to save the "Box Tops for Education" logos from General Mills & Betty Crocker products. The General Mills Box Tops for Education are each worth 10 cents and are found on such General Mills products as: Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Total and other General Mills Cereals. Fruit by the Foot, Suddenly Salad, Bisquick, Yoplait Yogurt, Betty Crocker Super moist cake mix, Frosting, Supreme brownies and dessert bars. Potato side dishes, Betty Crocker Magazine, Hamburger Helper, Chicken Helper, and Tuna Helper and many other General Mills items. You can also find Labels on select Pillsbury items.

The logos do have an expiration date on them so please check them to make sure they are still current. So as you clip the logos from the various General Mills & Betty Crocker packages, please check to make sure the expiration date is far enough in advance that when I receive them from you they will still be valid.

By the way, I personally will be collecting them throughout the year and will add them to the PTA’s collection at every monthly meeting.

If anyone is interested in saving these for my kids or wishes to send them directly to the school, please send me an email at [email protected] and I can send you the address on which you can send them.

To see what the box tops look like, please see the following URL address.

http://www.boxtops4education.com/works/logo.asp

Thanks to all that have helped in the past and look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Randy

What does this have to do with ebay? Soliciting is against AW rules!

Sorry can't help! My childs school does this program too and my boxtops go there. Most schools nationwide benefit from the boxtops for education program.

QD,
Sorry you feel poorly about helping out the kids. Remember, this is about helping the kids. Also keep in mind all I am asking for is the box tops, not cash. Box tops don't do me personally any good as General Mills will not give me cash for them. But they do give the schools cash for them, and that is the point.

This board is about ebay, not about helping out kids, and we sure don't want to turn this place into a comemrcial zone which has ruined many other sites.

quickdraw, once again your 2 cents worth is before you read the whole post.

she is not buying or selling them, therefore your badly spelled commercial remark is unwanted and uncalled for.

who died and left you the moderator????

I agree w/ QD. Not only does this have nothing to do with auctions OR eBay, but it is soliciting. Solicitation doesn't only pertain to money.

It is pointless, and should be in the roundtable.http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/list.html?num=28

This type of soliciting shows up every year, and I don't think many venue owners have the impetus to delete the threads ... it's perceived by them like taking candy from a baby.

The problem, as I see it, is that every school division seems to be underfunded, and not just in the USA. If we were all allowed to beg for help on these forums for our specific schools, the intent of the forums would be lost.

I may not be popular for saying this, and it's not really auction related either, but I am also getting tired of the NBC Today Show ... it should be renamed the NBC "Kidnapped Kids Show". Screw the other news, like possible war in Iraq

I would suggest you have an eBay fundraiser for your child's school. We have done this 2x & we have raised much more than we get from the box tops we clip. Good Luck!

rarriffle,

Who died and left you dicatator? This is AW's site and they decide the rules.
This is clarily soliciting because she is seeking something for gain without being asked to. It also encourages more commercial postings if one can get away with it.

quickdraw, dicatator???? could you possibly mean dictator?

I did not try to dictate anything, it is just that your know it all attitude in every thread gets on my last nerve!

if you think everyone is entitled to your opinion, you now have mine

rarriffle,

Are you moonlighting as an editor? I'm lucky, I get a free editor. Thank you,
I like chumps.

I don't have a "know all" attitude, I don't post on threads where I do not know. But we're not discussing me, we are discussing a misplaced thread so stop addressing me.

"A lot of the comments IN the Ebay message center is not EBAY RELATED...CHILL OUT FOLKS!!!.... DON'T read a thread if you are not interested?"

I only found 2 out of 40 that weren't ebay related, which amounts to 5%. That's not a lot! If you eliminate this one, it is only 2½%!!

If you can't abide by the rules, don't post here on AW!

Hair2dye4 (love that name!)-
A couple of us Mom's that do eBay on the side got together & thought we would attempt a fundraiser using eBay as the venue. We sent home a notice (with the school's approval, of course) explaining a bit about eBay & how it works. The vast majority of people were not very familiar with how it worked, so it is key to explain it well. We set up an account using the school's info so the $ went right to them. They gave us petty cash to pay for shipping & we returned the receipts for shipping. We asked each family to contribute at least one item. Again, explain well what type of things sell. People donated everything from autographed jazz cd's to designer label clothes - gently used and with the tags still on. We asked that families ask their extended families to contribute items, too. (One sister of a school employee had a closet full of high end designer clothes that no longer fit with the tags still intact! Escada!) It was a great time to clean out closets & get rid of that *new item* that didn't fit right & so on. We did one auction starting right around Thanksgiving & then I did another by myself in the Spring. Altogether we raised over $2000 (after we paid our fees) in a school with just 28 students. Pure profit, since everything we sold was contributed.
Two of us did the listings & managed our own items from start to finish (pictures, answering questions, wrapping, etc.) rather than splitting up responsibilities. This way we could do it at our own pace & it didn't require a bunch of meetings, etc. Parents who were not familiar with eBay did Post Office runs. We sent home updates & reminders to the student body as the auctions progressed. Our families were bidders/winners in some cases but the vast majority of auctions were won by the regular eBay community.
We had a link to the schools web page. People loved buying to support a good cause. Many buyers commented about it making the difference between buying our item vs. another seller's. The support that this fundraiser received compared to wrapping paper sales, candy sales & the like was just phenomenal. It was different!
As a point of comparison my older daughter is in a school with about 350 students. They just sent home a notice about how lucrative their boxtop fundraiser was last year. They raised $792 over the course of a year.
No comparison!
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sue

chathamsue- thanks for the help, I am not sure if I want the headaches but I know the girls can make money, do you know the rules on Ebay about fundraising? Anything I need to stay away from?
We just did a Krispy Kreme fundraiser, driving over 2 hours each way for the donuts and made over 1200.00 and they want me to do it again! All and all it was fun in the end.
The coach of the team did a yard sale with the girls and I found a Rose O'donnell shirt signed in the pile!!! It has been worn a lot, but I can't believe she was selling it I screamed NO ebay...
Anyway if we do this I would have lots of questions so if you are getting email to this thread let me know I will put on my email real quick and delete fast if it is Ok with you.
