Sometime ago I started a thread on best place to buy boxes. I bought 50 from a local paper distributor. 12 x 12 x 8 cost me $1.04 each. I just ordered 50 12 x 12 x 12 from U Line. My net cost including shipping is $0.82. a savings 22 cents a box. On 50 boxes that is $11.00. If you order by 4 PM they will ship that day. I ordered on Thursday & received them on Friday. I live 200 miles from LA. They have boxes of every size imaginable, plus all types of packing materials.

Speaking of great deals on shipping supplies, this has got to be the best deal on bubble wrap on ebay. Only $22 for a 500 ft roll with a low $8 UPS fee.

I still have found PaperMart to have the best pricing, especially in the L.A. area where a $200.00 order gets you free shipping.

I'm with sanmar on this one. Not only does Uline ship fast and reasonable but they are always sending fliers with discount prices on boxes that they must be overstocked on.

Example: I recently got a flier with a sale on Multi-Depth Boxes. There is a minimum order of $50.00 but the prices are great.
12x12x12 variable Depths of 12, 10, 8, 6 is only 0.69¢ each.

This type box is invaulable as it can be used for so many different size items.

8x8x8 Variable depths of 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 are only 0.40¢ each.

How can you go wrong???

I order all my boxes from them as I no longer ship USPS. Great service 7/24 by phone or on line.

Rampaged...just a laugh since you no longer ship USPS. I was at fedex shipping some packages and the person in front of me had about 6 packages...all with priority labels and some with priority boxes and the lady at the counter never even mentioned it. Is this legal? I would imagine the USPS would not be too happy about this.

I get all my boxes FREE. Find a locally owned grocery or hardware store that is willing to let you have thier trash. Find out what day is thier main delivery day and show up to get all the boxes you need. Works for me.

Note: dangerous materials boxes like spray cans and acids are generally not faverable at the post office.

You can also get day old news papers for FREE packing material. Most stores send back a portion of the front page for credit on unsold papers. The rest of it goes in the trash.

Be freindly and patronize thier store. If a store will not work with you, tell them you will shop elseware and go find one that will. I pay absolutly nothing for boxes and packing materials for most items. Plus I am keeping trash out of landfills.

Good Luck!

The boxes I find at grocery stores have all had their top portion cut away or they are baled up for a recycle company. They are good for donations to the Goodwill or moving but little else.

I guess I am little differnt. I like to use a new box. It looks more professional & I charge $1.50 over actual cost of shipping. That pays for the foam or bubble wrap & the box. Most of ny sales are in breakables. I use shredded paper for packing. I have done this for yrs. with large cartons of china & it really does great. You can pack it tightly all the way around & in between pieces. This is better than just crumpled paper.

I don't know if it legal or not. I'll talk to the UPS driver when he comes tomorrow and see what he has to say. I'm curious to see if others are doing it. I have several boxes of USPS #4 & #7 boxes and the post office don't even want them. LOL They say they don't have the storage space although behind the counter looks like a basketball court.

Not that i'd do it for I buy all my boxes and charge the customer $1.00 per shipment over actual cost to help defray the cost of materials.

Another good source for hard and soft styrofoam is furniture stores. Also they throw away huge sheets of very heavy bubble wrap that is used in the shipment of couches and chairs for their protection.

Another good source of packing peanuts is gift shops that sell figurines and also religious store. They throw away tons of packing peanuts. I have several stores that call me on a regular basis to pick up from the, They are glad to get rid of it.

The back of book stores is good also. The boxes are very clean and you usually just have to remove a label.
